This is a story I have been writing. I'm pretty new to writing storys so advice and criticism is more then welcome.
Note: Players names and stadiums are most of the time made up.
Chapter 1
The small crowd on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Edwards park were brought to their feet in injury time as Evertons key striker Terry Messley was given a key through ball to put him in space. He dribbled the ball a few times, keeping his eye on the target before fired in his shot from just outside the box, but unfortunately for Everton the shot wasn’t as good as the lead up and the ball flew right into my gloves. I booted the ball up field then leaped in joy as the referee blew the fulltime whistle. It was a rewarding win against our local rivals Everton but more importantly gave us 9 points in 3 games to put us in a close 2nd behind Manchester United.
The game was a cracker, especially for me. I managed to keep a clean sheet, my 4th for the season, as we came to a 1-0 win.
We were 7 games in to the under 20’s English competition and we were going great on 15 points, behind Manchester United on 18. I had been given a contract by Liverpool academy after they were impressed with my efforts for Australia under 20’s in our recent friendly against England.
The celebrations of our win was short lived as we all wanted to head back home for a rest before tomorrows recovery session. We were in the dressing rooms packing our stuff when our manager Robert Laine walked in. “Listen up boys, I’m very proud of your efforts so far this season. But we need to continue this form and make sure tiredness and form slumps do not stop us. Anyway, today we are lucky to have Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard here to give us a talk about what we need to do if we want to make first grade football!” I was stunned. That had to be the best news the coach had given us all year!
Steven Gerrard gave a 15 minute speech to us about determination and how if we worked hard enough we could make it to the top. It really opened my eyes to all the chances around, not just in the English Premier league but all over the world. He then staged a Q and A which was really good and kind of him.
Eventually the time for Gerrard to leave came and we all thanked him for taking time to come and talk. I think it really made most of the boys more determined and desirable to win the competition and hopefully play top grade football somewhere around the world.
