MAN UTD 3-3 LIVERPOOL
Wayne Rooney came off the bench to snatch a draw as Manchester United and Liverpool contested a six-goal thriller. Rooney finished calmly from 12 yards after Liverpool, who twice came from behind, had taken the lead. Manchester United went ahead when Dimitar Berbatov headed home on 11 minutes, but Steven Gerrard cut-in to level on 35 minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo restored the lead with a second-half free-kick, but Robbie Keane headed home moments later before Gerrard scored his second with a low drive.
The draw was probably a fair result, yet both teams will wonder how they did not pick up all three points from an open match. Manchester United twice took the lead, yet they threw it away, while Liverpool will wonder how they did not close out the game out after doing all the hard work in twice coming from behind. The United team sheet was slightly chnged from the last game they played as O'Shea replaced Evra and Vidic was replaced by skipper gary neville in the centre of defence alongside Ferdinand and Brown occupied the right back position.
And Cristiano Ronaldo, the match winner on that famous night at Old Trafoord who scored an hatrick against Keegan's Newcastle United, almost earned the Kev's ire again, racing onto Wes Brown's long ball only to be superbly tackled by Daniel Agger. Liverpool started solidly, but, as befits a team playing away from home with only one forward, created little in the early stages. And, when United took the lead in the 13th minute, they broke the length of field.
Tevez won possession in his own box then, as play passed through midfield, charged down the left wing before receiving the ball and firing in a perfect cross that Berbatov flicked home. Liverpool were rattled and Giggs and Ronaldo both nearly profited from the visitors' profligacy, easily picking off wayward passes but firing their shots too close to Pepe Reina.
But despite a disappointing start, Liverpool showed great composure to level on 35 minutes. Man Utd lost possession cheaply in Liverpool's half and were made to pay as the ball was moved quickly to Gerrard. The attacking midfielder ran at Neville, easily cut inside the centre back and fired under Van Der Sar with the outside of his right boot. Liverpool were the better side until half-time but Man Utd took control again after the break.
Anderson, on for Giggs, won a free-kick 25 yards out in the 47th minute. Liverpool opted for a partial wall and paid for it as Ronaldo smashed the ball home. The visiting team then went up to the other end and equalised. Keane bravely won a header and, with the United defence backing off, Silva fired in a low shot which Van Der Sar could only parry upwards. Keane, charging through on goal to follow up, made no mistake.
Liverpool took the lead for the first time on the hour - and again Van Der Sar was at fault. Gerrard and Torres combined with a neat one-two, but although the Englishman's first-time shot was powerful it should never have been allowed to fly in at the near post.
Ferguson threw on Rooney and Park Ji Sung and the gamble paid off when Wayne Rooney equalised on 74 minutes with virtually his first touch. Again the defending was sub-standard as the England star was left unmarked in the box and he calmly stroked home from 15 yards. Rooney could have scored the seventh goal of the match a minute later. Again he was given too much space, but this time he shot narrowly over from 22 yards with Reina desperately flinging himself across the goal.
The Spanish keeper was called into action again on 88 minutes and almost made a complete hash of it. There appeared little danger as a cross flew into the box, but his weak punch was from the Van Der Sar copybook and deflected narrowly wide. With injury time up, Liverpool made one last break up-field, but were wasteful with a free-kick in a good position.

*Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson
"Its rare to see six goals scored at Old Trafford and among them three are from the visiting team. Our defence was poor today. By taking the lead twice we should have concentrated more harder and not let the lead slip. We had some last minute chances which we wasted and well at the end both sides deserved a point from this game."
*Liverpool manager Kevin Keegan
"Old Trafford is one of the toughest place to come and score. But I think that if you are a manager you are not that happy at conceding three goals. I think it was a good game and both teams had the chance to win it. It is good to see our team play good football but we had to defend better. I'm very happy for Steven Gerrard, he is in the best form of his career and has scored in each match so far this season."
