Oxford/Cambridge

Exactly. My sister, despite having a first class honours degree in film and theatre and a first class masters degree in film and theatre was rejected for a job at Channel 4 last week because she was white, middle class and they'd already employed their quota of women. It's absolutely ridiculous.

That is just bang out of order. This country really is cocked up. Basically if your a white British born, your chances of getting a job/university place, compared to an Asian/African who might have the same or even lesser abilities are decreased due to these sort of reasons. Basically if you are gay, Asian and an immigrant you can get basically everything. And Britain is meant to be fair. Complete rubbish!

Don't get me wrong I am all for equal oppurtunity, but when it means that the majority are losing out to the minority, things are just wrong.

Here is a chance to make a Revolution for you're next generation, stand right head to head, fight for you're right.

Great Britain is really that Great?

make sure you're asian name is not like Lee chang wang or andald de silva..

keep it real like, Sanjay, Rizzy, etc.

Getting back to the subject matter...

Oxbridge is partly hype, I would agree with Colin. I should say half hype really, as far as I have read Cambridge is still quite a way ahead of any other uni in terms of quality, but Oxford is not even in 2nd.

The social life thing is a massive problem for them both, which is why I'd suggestthinking about Nottingham or Manchester to people. Heck, Brimingham and Leeds as well, although I havent seen them, just heard of them. I have seen Manchester as I live there and can say it is good and I have literally just come back from Nottingham affter half a week staying there for some science thing and the whole main campus is really nice, plus I have heard it isnt a bad uni at all.

Oxbridge isnt it when it comes to good unis really

Correct me if i'm wrong, but being Asian certainly wouldn't help you, would it?

Here in America, people who are 'under represented' in the educated community basically can walk in to any college they want (Yes, even Harvard!) with half decent scores and extra curricular's. These people are usually African American, Latino, or something of the sort.

Us Asians are all about the academics, are 'over represented' (I don't know if that's the term they use) so it is even harder for us to get into a college of our choice.

Does it work that way in Britain?

In Britain, you guys are the American versions of "African American, Latino, or something of the sort." Only difference is as long as you aren't British, your fine

Sorry, but really, there's not that much positive discrimination at all. I wish. I'm going to pay UK citizen fees, since I'm a permanent resident. I won't be paying any more or less than anyone else. Being a minority really doesn't help. In fact, it's something that irks me when people shout "I'm white and working class and no one hears our view". That's utter BS.

IF I do get in (big if), then it'll be due to my skill, and luck, rather than anything else. I'm applying to Biotechnology (includes areas such as Genetic Engineering etc) but Camb don't do that, so I'll do Biochemistry/Genetics at Cambridge and then move on from there...if I get in.

Your more likely to get your views heard if your Asian and working class then you are if you are white and working class. Also, go to Edinburgh Uni to see what I'm talking about.

I'm not having a go at Asians or anything like that, it is just the system is mucked up

That's quite untrue. I live in West Yorkshire and see a fair amount of ethnic minorities myself, there definitely isn't any favouritism in order to pander to the minority.

the PM is still a full Brit, unlike the US.

yh i don't think there is any favouritism either...and i would have thought it was the other way around if at all...but it's pretty even tbh
