With SA's current form against India, Pakistan may have testing time in pitches like these especially in absence of Asif! i feel MoYo shd be the key player to watch! But still SA gains a slight upperhand ( only marginally i feel ) over Pakistan!

Well with Asif and Shoaib cleared, I think Pakistan have teh edge. SA have always struggled against Shoaib and we have seen them consistently struggle against quality swing bowling , something that both Gul and Asif can provide.

You must remember that India, in most of the one day games, bowled extremely well for 35-40 overs and gave it way in the slog overs. Pakistan have the extra pace option so it will be difficult for SA to score 60-75 runs in the last ten.

I still think South Africa will be favourites, especially since they are playing home. But Asif and Akhtar give a good boost to the Pakistani pace attack. I regard South Africa as the second best team in the world, so it will be a good thing to see how Pakistan will play against them.

Akhtar and Asif's inclusion would certainly even the playing field against RSA. You have to feel for Umar Gul though, he was finally performing the role of the strike bowler and Pakistan's top two are back.

no reason why he cant replace razzaq in the test XI

He better. But in playing alongside Akhtar and Asif, many of his performances will be overshadowed, IMO.

Also, he more than likely won't get the new ball.

Asif and Aktars inclusion is a big + for Pakistani cricket team...they will really bolster their pace attack...and yeah i think Gul should be played in tests instead of Razzaq and Razzaq in ODIs...

Gul can probably play the role of third seamer even in ODIs. He's very economical and able to pickup wickets. He was our best seamer in the CT.

I would say Pakistan has a chance in test series but, not in odi's because South Africa have white washed India currently.
The only reason I say Pakistan has a upper hand in Test series because of Shoiab Akhtar, Mohammad Asif and Shabbir Ahmed's comeback.
I also think that if Pakistan get Shahid Afridi back they have a chance of winning the ODI series aswell.

well i dont think that Pakistans chances increase at all with afridi in the ODI squad, especially after the form he has been in, only way Pakistan can win the ODIs is if their bowlers give them a chance and their top order doesnt crumble like Indias did in the ODI sereis. also i would like to see Shabir get a chance to bowl sometime in the SAF series in a warm up match or somthing, but i wouldnt like to see Gul get kicked out of the squad since he deserves a spot he was the best bowler for Pakistan from the england sereis up to now.

I compleately agree with u Dare that Shahid Afridi have'nt performed this year but, it not his fault because he has been moved around alot his ideal place is number 6, but like u have seen in Multan he was sent as an opener and he failed by scoring only 1, plus he is have a bad patch this year but i hope that inshallah he will comeback good in 2007 at South Africa.
