Pakistan

well mind you 50 over cricket provides more life for a bowler than the t20s.There is no comeback for your team after your 20+ runs over.one over can take the game away from you.Batsman's attitude is different when it come's to 50 overs. They like to get set first and then start banging but when it comes to t20s there are cluches on batsman

Where the heck is umar akmal, the top scorer of the matches against Kenya & Canada? :p

Interesting Line-up!!! But where is Umar Akaml??
Damn! I knew I was missing someone.Completely forgot about that bloke.
Here's the line-up again.

  • Mohd.Hafeez
  • Kamran Akmal
  • Younis Khan
  • Misbah-ul-Haq
  • Umar Akmal
  • Shahid Afridi
  • Abdul Razzaq
  • Saeed Ajmal
  • Umar Gul
  • Shoaib Akhtar
  • Junaid/Riaz

It's a good thing Hafeez bowls as hes done nothing with the bat so far, he's lucky his opening partner is going just as bad.

They were showing Hafeez and Ajmal in split screen yesterday, and they have a near-identical action. Also, the general build and height of the two guys is similar and they basically looked like clones from afar.

Interesting how several of the Pakistani offspinners since the great Saqlain have chosen to imitate his action.

Watching Afridi bowl yesterday really made my day, he's way ahead of any bowler currently.

^His bowling against Lankans was brilliant. They are some of the best players of spin but Afridi dominated and bamboozled them. Afridi is being as effective as Kumble was in his heyday.

I think Abdur-Rehman should be in place of Junaid/Riaz

With Afridi bowling so well as the main spinner now. I think PAK should seriously consider bringing back in Riaz for Rehman/Ajmal.

Nah, I disagree with that. Considering we are playing NZ and AUS in the next two games, I'd rather give Ajmal a go. It would be a tough decision to leave out Riaz based on his performances, but If Riaz has to come in he will have to fight with Gul and Akhtar for that spot.

Ye well i guess for sure you would want more spinners to expose AUS & NZ batsmen for those games. But as the tournament progresses i think you do it though, especially since i'd be sorta worried if Razzaq bowling has an off-day, thus putting pressure on Gul/Akhtar. If Riaz is in, you have security.

I am really not sure that why Pakistan team management is forcing to some how fit an unbalanced or precisely an over balanced unit. Razzaq as an opening bowler is way too risky especially against teams like India, South Africa and Australia and to every team which heavily relay on their openers to fire. Although he is bowling okish but it is a real gamble and as far as bowling is concern Pakistan must not gamble at all. I guess they should give Ahmed Shehzad another chance against New zealand and if he fails again then Shehzad must be replaced by Wahab or Junaid. Now they can use Razzaq in more productive way like they can bat him at No.3 or 4 with Kamran and Hafeez as openers.

Thats the worrying thing. Razzaq with the bowl. Hes done adequately so far, but against a big team (even against Lanka) you need to take wickets from the start to build pressure. Hence, I was hoping we would try and change our combination in the game against Kenya and see how it goes. Ramiz Raja said in one of the games, if 7 batsmen fail its very unlikely the 8th will succeed. Our batting against Kenya was the perfect example. But then again Razzaq played that magical innings against South Africa.

Personally, I would prefer us trying to rest one batsmen and bring in a bowler and see how it goes. Its risky but now that we have qualified, I think its worth the risk.

I dunno man, I think Razzaq has done well enough in his role. Pakistan have guys like Gul and Akhtar to take wickets. Razzaq just needs to bowl tightly in the powerplay to create pressure so that the guy at the other end has a better chance of taking wickets. It would be different if Pakistan didn't have strike bowlers with the new ball but they have no trouble in that department. I think you guys are fine, with Razzaq playing the role that he has been playing.

Pakistan in with a real chance of topping the group here and if they do that, they would be qualifying for the second round of the World Cup after 12 long years seeing as they missed the bus in the last two editions.
