After playing the game post Patch 3 extensively on PS4, I've realized the field sets and AI for changing fields is actually worse than pre-patch 3 game. The AI comes up with a decent field first up but the problem is the fields seldom change and nearly all the field sets are similar being heavy on the off side with barely 2 or 3 (and sometimes 1) fielders on the leg. You can keep on plundering through the leg and the fields remain the same or another variant of the "off side heavy" field is deployed. Before patch 3 the AI actually changed the field to block your scoring areas. If you scored through the leg, they would put fielders on the leg, forcing you to play through the off side to hit boundaries. Not so after patch 3 where you can continue plundering runs through leg side with impunity. And this is on 'Legend' difficulty level.
Other issue related to field setting is that the fields always have Mid Off and Cover with Extra Cover in some cases, thus never really inviting batsmen to play through the off side/overs. Even in Tests it's the same. Given the fact that most of the off side drives go to Extra Cocer or Cover areas, once these two fielders are in place, there's no point playing off drives as you can barely beat these fielders. Maybe once we have true 360 degree batting, i.e. you can place the ball anywhere in the 360 degree arc, things may change. Plus you have slips all the time. You could be 200/0 and there would be fields with 2 to 3 slips. In trying to fix the field sets changing too much, Big Ant have now gone to the other extreme where the fields remain the same throughout and batsman's scoring areas are never protected. This has taken some of the fun from batting as earlier you had to change your scoring areas but now you play the same way irrespective of match type and match situation. Hopefully in the next iteration, Big Ant will pay attention to field sets and AI for field change along with implementing true 360 degree batting.
