void gender bias? Actress. It isn't that hard to differentiate.
Some females will take offense at being called 'actress'. It is not improper, and they offer the clumsy justification, "It is not an engineeress, or a doctress, or a teachress, therefore I am not an actress."
A female who acts may either be called 'actor' or 'actress'. I think that the main objection is in the need to define or verbalise the gender. No one ever says 'male actor' or 'male doctor'.
Personally, I think that the term 'Actress' should be embraced wholeheartedly.
