Taking a break from franchise cricket - Rogerson

Ireland and South Coast Sharks captain Kelby Rogerson made an unexpected announcement following the Sharks' easy win over Northern Roses.

"After the English Premier League competition," he told the assembled press, "I intend to take a break from franchise cricket at the end of this tournament. There have been some great times, including winning the Indian Premier League with Rajasthan Royals, but I think I need to get back to my roots a bit."

When asked how that would affect his availability for the national team, he was insistent: "Certainly I would like to keep representing Ireland," he said, "and as captain if possible, but I think the constant lifestyle of hotels and T20 cricket is affecting my game. I intend to fulfil my contract with the South Coast Sharks, but I would like to withdraw from the Caribbean Premier League. Instead, I wish to focus on a new challenge with USPC's Kings Cross Stallions."
