I did a similar thread in the cricket section few years ago, so will do it here. As the title says, just make your picks covers the timeline you have been following & started to understand football well.

I start from EURO 96. Not a fan of defenders, so I'm using a 3-4-3 diamond formation to include most of the best attacking players i've seen.

Mine would be very similar to that I think. I started some time before the 2006 WC IIRC, and my first match was the 2002 final.

Would probably go for Kahn instead of Schmeichel, Ronaldinho instead of Giggs, Iniesta instead of Pirlo and Xavi instead of Scholes.
