Playing XI

1stodmatch.png

With M. Verma still out through injury, the keeping and captaincy duties have been passed on to B. Hedger. Callum Gray has just made one change to his first class team and that is dropping R. Ramesh after a poor showing in their most recent match in place of bowler, D. Veza. This will give B. Hedger five 10 over bowling options, as well as two part timers. Their is a lot of pressure on the top five, as N. Shah is down to bat a six, beginning a long PlanetCricket tail.

Derbyshire Playing XI

derb1stodmatch.png

Derbyshire have a very young playing XI, in which three of them are yet to play first class cricket. The major player in their line up is Chris Tremlett who will have too bowl well if they are going to restrict the PlanetCricket County to a reasonable total.

Playing Conditions

Toss

The PlanetCricket County has won the toss and B. Hedger has elected to have a bowl. The pitch is bound to do something early on, and their is a bit of cloud cover hanging around which should also help the pace bowlers.

You are joking me! Bloody overseas leagues..havent even had a bloody game yet! :spy

Normally the player's overseas play for around 1 month before coming back. About 5 OD games, you will probably miss. Nice to see me captain for this match. Need a century here.

I don't think Blake liked opening. I like the MVP tournement idea. It's a shame for the international players and the injured players as they won't play enough matches to do well in it.

Brendon's got the gloces on, we'll lose for sure. Death by byes.

I saw we put a Fine Leg and a Third Man for protection. Hedger, do you know how to catch a ball? You do not, i repeat do not, catch it with your arse. Do not do it again.

I would so laugh if I take 10 screamers in the first innings and not let through a single bye. Then you will all be thinking.

I can see why you wanted me as keeper CG, but it's a cardinal sin to have an all-rounder keeping.. you need me with the ball.

I picked some rubbish South African, I know, but I didn't check the games played for country or anything when I signed up.

I'll probably take like 0/100 and get 13 with the bat. But I will have tried. :whip

PlanetCricket Win Opening Challenge Trophy Group Match

Match Summary

PlanetCricket had to survive a late Derbyshire come back, as they picked up a win in their opening Challenge Trophy group match of the season.

Derbyshire had to work over time just to get up to 181, thanks to some great PlanetCricket bowling. It was led well at the top by G. Aggarwal and C Bosnich, who strangled Derbyshire to 11 for 2. During the middle over's it was all B. Gutteridge and G. Pickering, as they demolished Derbyshire reducing them to 106 for 6. They fought back however to reach 181, but the damage had already been done as they failed to bat out their full quota of 50 over's.

PlanetCricket didn't come out all guns blazing, rather they looked to built an innings from the top. A good opening stand of 65 between A. Cricketer and B. Blake was just a foundation as Pakistani A. Shreyas came out and blasted 42 off 48 balls, pretty much taking PlanetCricket to victory in the process. B. Blake was the anchor, but when he got out the ship collapsed as they lost four wickets for just seven runs. C. Gray and G. Aggarwal came together, and slowly but surly ensured a PlanetCricket victory.

Man of the Match was awarded to B. Gutteridge for his four wickets, as the PlanetCricket County cruised past Derbyshire by 5 wickets.

My View

Overall it was a pretty good win. All of our bowlers stood up, except D. Veza and B. Blake who wasn't required. B. Hedger done alright behind the stumps taking a good catch, but M. Verma will be back next match. All of our batsmen who played in both games have now proven themselves at this level, so I will look to make minimal changes in that department before the overseas league concludes.

The over's don't add up because if you finish at the end of an over, the bowler's over's go back to the starting over. For example, James Anderson is bowling to Australia. England need 1 wicket to win. Anderson has bowled 7 over's already. He manages to get the wicket on the last ball of the over. So he has bowled 8 over's but the game says he has bowled 7 (where he was before) so Jeffrey has really bowled 9 over's but it only shows that he has bowled 8. Yeah, only let through 10 byes. Not very good batting though.
