Shane Bond, Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar would be the obvious ones, they all had the potential to become legendary pace bowlers (though they are all great bowlers respectivley) but with injury getting the best of Bond and Lee, and with Akhtar not being able to handle his personal life they were all unable to reach the full potential which they could have IMO.

So post any cricketers whom you think didn't reach their full potential or in other words underachieved.

Shahid Afridi stands out to me. Blaster of a cricket ball but could be so much more if he had a little bit of determination.

Jayawardena in ODI's and Dhoni in Test

Gibbs anyone? Had the potential to become one of the finest players ever in world cricket, but he never quite made it.

Can't look past Ashraful.
Must be the worst batsmen stats wise, to play in 50 tests.

Best of them all = Matthew Sinclair...
I mean 214 on debut, and another 200 early on in his career, but still a massive failure!:facepalm

The Windies have three immense talents: Dwayne Smith, Kieron Pollard, and Xavier Marshall. These guys can block ones and twos, and tap boundaries, yet they just hammer everything.

Luckily, there's still time for all of them. If they come good, so will the Windies.

Matthew Sinclair is a huge one. He's prolific every year in NZ domestic. He smashes attacks. In Internationals after his double hundreds he just lost it.

Looking back, Shane Watson was in danger of falling into this category.

Craig McMillan? Retired at 30 iirc

Can go past Graeme Hick and Mark Ramprakash. 100 tons and not many test tons.

Also Greg Blewett, Matthew Elliott, Michael Slater- I thought he was awesome, and couldve played over 100 tests, but I guess 73 is a good career, and changed the openers role to aggressive way before Sehwag.
