Match status: Game over.
Gritty Noffke guides Bulls home.
Queensland have moved to 2nd spot on the FRC table after a grinding win over the PKF Tigers at Bellerive Oval. The Bulls sent the Tigers in on a wet deck. Tassie got off to a postive start through openers Dighton and Paine, before the Bulls bowlers got a stranglehold on the innings. They finished 8/224 (50 overs), with Ryan Harris taking 3/45 off 10 and Nathan Rimmington 2/41 off 10. All-rounder Lee Carseldine was the other notable wicket taker collecting 2/57 off his 10 overs.
So the chase was on, Queensland as has the case been all year lost openers Watson and Carseldine early. The top order collapsed under some tight Tassie bowling on a woeful pitch for batting on. New comer Glenn Batticciotto and Reardon turned aggressive on the Tigers attack, especially targeting the spinners in Doherty, Krejza and Capt Dan Marsh. When they both fell the score was 6/119 still requring 100 odd runs for victory.
Enter Noffke and Simpson, they grafted there way to get QLD back on track, until Simpson and Noffke both had brain explosions to have the QLD camp nervous. Noffke fell for a brilliant 53 in the circumstances and it took Chris Hartley to score a run-a-ball 14 to guide the Bulls home in the 45th over and send QLD to 2nd spot.
Brendan Julian speaking with Capt Chris Simpson after the game.
(BJ): Great gutsy win this afternoon Chris, very gritty win.
(CS): Thanks BJ, yeah hard fought win, very satisfied at the moment.
(BJ): Yep, pretty much had to win to stay alive in the comp, what was said to the boys during the week?
(CS): We sat down as a group and talked about where we wanted to go and how successful we wanted to be this season and how we could do it. We are a hugely talented group and I told the boys with our potential, we needed to lift our game, and model ourselves somewhat on guys like Love, Joe Dawes, Kasprowicz, Bichel, Hayden guys like that who have brought so much success to Queensland Cricket.
(BJ): Would you say it's a luxury to have guys like Symonds on the sidelines?
(CS): I guess you could say it is in a way. It's good to be in a position to have guys fighting for places in the team, as it keeps everyone on guard.
(BJ): Ash Noffke absolutely superb tonight making runs and bowling a very good spell without reward.
(CS): Yep, outstanding, Noffers was a bit underdone at the start of the season with his hamstring, but he seems to be back to 100% which is great and it's definitely showing in his Cricket.
(BJ): Top of the table clash with WA in a few days time, chance for top spot, looking forward to it obviously, any possible changes??
(CS): Hahaha BJ...Mate we'll have a sit down tomorrow and assess the team, and go from there.
(BJ): Thanks for your time Chris.
(CS): No worries BJ.
