Ian Chappell: Well England have won the first match of the Commenwealth Bank series against Australia by 7 wickets and with 8.2 overs left. England made it easyily really hitting four boundaries in the 1.4 overs since the 40 overs to get the target comfortably. Collingwood and Strauss saw England home on 16* and 94* respectively. Strauss was the main contributer lasting the whole innings and go at nearly a run-a-ball. Collingwood made a well made 16 bringing the bragging rights to the English supporters out here at the MCG.
We shall have the presentatin ceromony and a chat between Bill Lawry and Mark Taylor over the game and the major points in the match.
Today we woke up at 7 after a hard nights partying last night. Me and Stu were a bit nackered and had a slight headache after last nights drinking in celebration of our inclusion in the Queensland squad for the forthcoming season. Stu hopped into the shower while I turned on the telly to get some local news. The sport news came up and had a bit about us signing for the Bulls. " Yesterday Damien Mullins, the Queensland Bulls state cricket team chairman, announced that they have signed to young English players. Jack Teague and Stuart Cullington played for the Gold Coast Dolphins grade cricket team last season and were picked on their performances for them..."
Me and Stu were very excited about getting a chance to meet all the players in the Queensland team. Stu was excited especially about meeting a fellow young fast bowler Mitchell Johnson. I was excited to see the big names like Symonds and Hayden. We got a phone call at 8:30 from one of the coaching staff at Queensland telling us to come down to the training ground now. Me and Stu hopped into the Vauxhall Vectra and I drove us down to Brisbane. We arrived at the GABBA and what a spectacular site it was. Me and Stu had never been to a big stadium in Australia so this was a first. We parked in the players parking and we were greeted by Terry Oliver the coach of the Queensland Bulls state cricket team. He welcomed us and showed us around the ground. He seemed like a nice guy who knew his stuff about cricket. Before we went and saw the alds he showed us the pitch and so on. He told us a few tips about how to get on with everyone and we took them into account as we walked into the dressing room and lounge. All the players were friendly and we had about an half an hour chat before we went down into the nets. I was immediately told to get my pads on and show them what I could do and Stu was sent to bowl against Matthew Hayden. It took me a while to get into things but I did start to hit the ball nicely. I hit a crisp cover drive of Johnson and I smashed a short pull from Nathan Rimmington. But then the old timer Andy Bichel came in my net and bowled a beauty first up. It pitched just outside of off on a good length and nipped back off the seam and knocked my off pole out the ground. As I threw the ball back to him he said "Welcome mate."
I glanced over a few times to see how my buddy Stu was doing and iI heard him celebrate when he got Martin Love, sending the stump flying. But he spoke to me afterwards and said he had been given a bit of a smashing off Hayden but also beat the bat a few times. Overall it was a good net and it looked like this was going to be a fabulous season!
Yes it is me and Culli are going to try and get our way up through Queensland's ranks and maybe make the England squad
but we have to get picked for the Bulls first
