Yeah it should be, already got some plans too! Gonna get about 5/6 months work done on pretty good pay, a bit of a euro trip with some mates before heading off down to Aus/NZ for a cricket academy over my winter and then some travelling afterwards. Well up for it.

I should tell you that colleges don't look at it too well. They're going to ask you what you did and from the looks of it, you won't be doing anything but lazing around. Maybe throw in some work experience or something in there. That's if you're actually serious about college...
That's the American view, English University's love the idea of gap years and many schools and university's actually encourage the students to take them. They know that there will be travelling and social activities involved in this year, but they see the work experience and the travelling as a great addition to someone's character.

Yeah they're bonkers for it here. Apparently they're looking for people who are more complete as people and a gap year sorta ticks that off for them. Especially traveling, as it shows you're a well rounded individual who isn't afraid of going into new situations.

Shravi is correct about American Unis though, its not a good idea to take a Gap year for them.

Trust, going to an International school were 80% of our year is made up of English and American students. All the American's question why the Brit's take gap years, and all the Brit's question the American's why they don't. It's a vicious cycle
