It's weird over here, the gambling proceeds are used to pay for schools, but only poor people buy lotto tickets. So at least they are wasting their money on the school system :P

I should clarify that in Texas we only have a State run lotto, no private gambling enterprise here.

I did a project on problem gambling, just finished it last week. We had to find a problem or opportunity that could be solved with technology (for my information systems paper), so I choose this.

It does have a massive effect on people but that's only if they do it too much. Gambling in moderation is perfectly fine.

I don't think you disagree with him, really. Just his wording.

Gambling is enjoyable. Obviously some people suffer problems with it and can't cope. Most people can gamble responsibly. Some can't.

I wouldn't say the social impact was massive. It has a massive negative effect on a minority of people, but a smaller positive impact on an extremely larger section of society.

I work in a casino, so on one hand I may be biased in defence of gambling, but then on the other it means I am well placed to actually comment on the topic.

It's like pretty much everything with age restrictions. Fine as long as people employ self-control/common sense.

was reading about the tea party candidates for the mid terms today in the independent.

I actually burst out laughing when I saw Linda McMahon was running. It sums up large swathes of the republican party for me though, wwe fanatics.

On a more sombre note it is quite worrying that these people have large support in one of the more developed, modern countries. Makes you realise just how difficult poorer countries has it.

I've always voted Democrat the lesser of the two evils but it does not matter. Both parties look out for corporate interests and defense before they do anything else
