Indeed. I just watched the Paxman interview with him on the BBC website. Didn't agree with him on everything and certainly on foreign policy I prefer Gore Vidal and Noam Chomsky but you can't deny Hichens' brilliance on matters of religion.

Intensely bad mood, first train was delayed by 15 minutes because it was stuck behind a "couple of stopping trains". Why were they scheduled like that?! Had to limp-run across Leeds station to get on this one.
