The translations are awful and it's a shame they can never get someone who actually speaks English properly to do them.

The dialogue is pretty poor I have to agree. Bollywood films are pretty awful overall, though Lagaan wasn't too bad I suppose, especially if you love cricket.

I really want to watch AUS-SA but I'm swamped with work atm. Worst timing.

As for the Bollywood discussion. Bollywood is the only other film industry that is comparable to Hollywood (in size and money). As a result, it has had to build a distinct identity so that it doesn't risk being too similar. This involves incorporating a lot of cultural aspects that don't translate across borders or languages very easily.

Regarding Maney's opinion, well, it's not really valid is it? He only watched it through subtitles and more importantly, his ENTIRE opinion of Bollywood movies is based on ONE movie.

Distinct identity?

Is that why almost every single Bollywood film is a rip-off of a Hollywood film?

It's not even CLOSE to "almost every single" film.

Besides, I was referring the song and dialogues part.

In any case, I may be wrong, but I don't think you watch nearly enough Bollywood movies to make such all-encompassing statements.

I used to watch quite a few 5-10 years ago. Not any more as they're mostly complete crap.

There are some really good ones (i.e. the ones that don't just rip off a hollywood film), but the majority are poor IMO.

I agree on the songs and dialogues part though, at least that differentiates Hollywood from Bollywood to some extent.

Overall though, I wouldn't recommend Bollywood to a white guy, they simply won't enjoy it.

I agree that there's a lot of crap. However, I generally don't watch them with any expectations, and so I'm generally always entertained or in some rare cases, pleasantly surprised. Also, I find that I enjoy a good Bollywood movie much more than a good Hollywood movie. It's unfortunate that they are few and far between, but still.

There are some gems, but on the whole the quality is poor. I could easily enjoy myself in almost any Hollywood film, the same can't be said for Bollywood.

Plus, whenever recommends me a Hollywood film, a lot of the time it's complete crap even if they enjoyed it.

Bollywood movies have improved since 2011 for sure. Earlier I too never was willing to go out for a film. Bollywood movies either copy the main thrills or the story, but not the whole Hollywood film.

most hollywood films are complete crap.

very slick and shiny. but of about as much artistc substance or merit as the cricket 07 downloads forum

The difference between a "good" Hollywood film and a "good" Bollywood film is still huge.

You'd come to appreciate Hollywood a lot more if you saw how Bollywood blatantly steals Hollywood ideas and completely butchers them.

I agree though that most of the so called comedies and action films from Hollywood are poor.
