So...has that 99 changed everyone's mind about Dhoni?
I think he should step down as captain, but keep him in the side - he's still a better keeper/batsman than anyone else I've heard suggested.
I was checking out the ICC rankings today, did you know Tendulkar is still India's highest rated batsman? He shouldn't be - he's #19, but India's batsmen have been so awful of late that he's basically got that title by default. Sehwag is at #23, Pujara at #25 (working his way up obviously as he plays more Tests). Then it's Gambhir at 35, Dhoni at 38, Kohli at 41, Ashwin at 50!! Given that lack of batting performance of late, it seems a bit rich to say to Sachin should be turfed out - no one else is doing anything either! The great man deserves to go out on his own terms.
If Ashwin can bat well, Jadeja keeps bowling tidily and Dhoni does well batting higher (as he seems to across all formats), could the future India side be a 6-7-8 of Dhoni-Jadeja-Ashwin? Followed by Ojha, and a couple of pacemen. Would be different overseas though, you'd want 3 pace bowling options.
As for the rest of the team, Kohli and Gambhir are the guys who need to pull their fingers out IMHO. Kohli did well this Test with his century, and Gambhir has been getting consistent starts - but for the most part they've been disappointing I feel, considering their obvious talent. And given they are the 2 heirs apparent for the captaincy, it's difficult to give either one of them the captaincy when they have so much development to do on their own games.
