Rock Music Thread

I'm stuck in the 70's, anything later just doesnt interest me as much as it probably should.

Led Zeppelin, The Stooges, Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, Clash, Stiff Little Fingers etc, are all up there in my regard.

From the 90's, I only like Nirvana and Alice in Chains, its just a shame Grunge didnt last longer.

I'm gonna throw you guys a reccomendation.

"Who's The Boss In The Factory" by Karmakanic. I get the feeling that this is gonna be Pink Floyd esque in decades. It's just simply amazing, to be honest.

Pink Floyd is my favourite band! Others include Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Nirvana amongst others. Def Leppard is pretty good too, though their sound is probably known as glam rock.

I agree with Simon that the rock scene has changed. The sound is pretty different from what it used to be. Personally I prefer to call present day rock as 'modern rock' distinct from the rock music of the 70s-80s. I'd say basically it has changed more in favour of electronics than anything else. That will include bands such as Linkin Park and such others.

I haven't really followed rock this millennium. Everything sounds like a prefab version of the same thing. :mad

I like the heavier stuff. Nightprowler will kill me, but I think AC/DC are overrated. Honestly. No where near Hard Rock, atleast not what I've heard...

My Chemical Romance deserve a mention. Quite awesome. Good Charlotte too, and I'd classify Coldplay/Killers/Snow Patrol/The Fray as alternative rock.

Oh, and Linkin Park = Legendary.

Finally a rock thread :)

Yes, Im a huge Rock fan, love all sorts to be honest.

Most well known groups that I like are Metallica, Muse, Linkin Park, Nickelback, etc, etc and a few more, but the ones I like that are lesser known: Within Temptation.

You've been listening to the wrong stuff then. :p

If you like Within Tempation, you'll probably like Nightwish.

For DPRA, Muse are Indie, I wouldn't class them as rock.

You are compartmentalising music far too much. Muse are defo a rock band. Rock is a wide and loosely defined genre as a guide if its based on 3 chords, a backbeat and melody its rock.

I am more of a metal fan.. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Linkin Park, Evanescence, etc..

Nirvana is awesome (if it is classified under rock).. The man who sold the world, smells like teen spirit, Lithium are super tracks !!
Coldplay has some great songs as well. Particularly like shiver, speed of sound, viva la vida.
Greenday, Blink182 are punk, and over a period of time get way too monotonous for my liking. Wake me up when September ends and American Idiot are my favs..

Not sure whether they are rock, but also liked
Oasis - wonderwall,
The Cranberries - Zombie,
Used to listen to RHCP, not anymore..

Linkin Park are pop. Very mainstream and whiney, first choice for pre-pubescent pre-teens.
Nirvana = Grunge
Coldplay and Oasis are also pop bands (good ones though)
Agreed that Greenday and Blink got old fast.

Good other than that!

I'm with you on this one, except there's more good 90's music than you think. Bands such as Pearl Jam, Phil Collins + Genesis, INXS, Anything by the Finns, Eric Clapton, The Foo, JBT, Lenny Kravitz, Offspring, Powderfinger, R.E.M and U2. (At least that's what I like from the 90's)

I like the heavier stuff. Nightprowler will kill me, but I think AC/DC are overrated. Honestly. No where near Hard Rock, atleast not what I've heard...

Nightprowler won't be the only one killing you mate. You have the music taste of a pre-teen female.

AC/DC Have a heavy, almost gritty guitar sound, and Bon/Brian screams chestily, not whinges and whines like Gerard.

And lastly, Indie is not a genre of music, all it means is that particular band isn't signed by a record company, and they record their music themselves. The term 'Indie' is an abbreviation for independent. Just clearing that up for anyone who didn't already know.

Sorry if I've been a bit harsh, but I felt I needed to vent some steam.

Well, sure, that is how the term indie originated. But a lot of independent music sounds awfully similar, which is why the term is being used to describe the genre of the music as well.

Oi! I don't care how much the vocals scream, AC/DC is too upbeat and happy for me to consider it hard rock. It's good, but not something I'm gonna head bang to.

With Linkin Park, it's darker, and I like the mix of techno with the rock part. Although yes, but whiney, and lyrically it's sappy, but I don't really care too much for the lyrics in rock.

Upbeat and happy? You've gotta be kidding me. Oasis are upbeat and happy. AC/DC are heavy and powerful, if you can't head bang to these guys then you can't to anyone.
