Rock Music Thread

And lastly, Indie is not a genre of music, all it means is that particular band isn't signed by a record company, and they record their music themselves. The term 'Indie' is an abbreviation for independent. Just clearing that up for anyone who didn't already know.

Ok they're Indie Rock ;)

Upbeat and happy? You've gotta be kidding me. Oasis are upbeat and happy. AC/DC are heavy and powerful, if you can't head bang to these guys then you can't to anyone.
Must have been listening to the wrong stuff then.

BTW: Soundtrack of Rock On. I think it's rock, and better than a lot of English rock. Anyone else think so too?

AC/DCs all about the instrumentation, most of the lyrics are pretty meaningless, at least in the days with Bon Scott.

My taste varies from Thrash metal (Mettalica,Slayer and so on) to Indie (Kaisers,Muse,Arctic Monkeys) to Punk (Sex Pistols,The Clash,PiL,The Exploited) to Pop Punk (Greenday,Sum 41,Blink 182) to "Post" Punk (Joy Division) to Screamo (Enter Shikari,Bullet for my Valentine) to Emo (MCR,The Get up Kids).

It would be a long post if I put up all the bands/artists I liked :P.

Partial to abit of rock myself. Liking stuff like Feeder (<3), Puddle of Mudd, Nirvana, The Hives, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Guns N Roses, loads of stuff. I also really like the 'Indie' Rock, stuff like Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Kooks, etc. I know they're not strictly Independant, but everyone knows that type of music as "Indie" now, so I'll just join them and call it that, far easier.

I'll be honest, Lee. I'd rather listen to your Droylsden dribble, than watch a Muse video.

Okay, I've listened to more AC/DC, and I'll agree that the instrumentals are excellent. Definitely Hard Rock. But for some reason I don't think it is in the same league as Iron Maiden or Dragonforce (Who, BTW, are amazing. I heard Soldiers of the Wasteland and Through the Fire and Flames, and was just amazed. Wow. Likin Park will have to fall to second place I'm afraid, these guys are great, can't wait to hear the rest of their stuff). AC/DC doesn't appeal to me as much as those guys, and I have no idea why...

No good all round, in my opinion. Just really not for me.

What a waste!

Downloaded a few Dragonforce songs for my Ipod, and I tell you, Im mightily impressed, some amazing guitar solos. I can see me downloading the whole alum next time im in Credit ;)

lol, amazing guitar solos. Skill lacking, and meaningless, from what I remember. Obviously, only my opinion. Playing as insanely fast as possible does not equal skill, to me. It's what they seem to be aiming for really. Sounds like pac man on speed.

Although, I'll admit, the drummer is a beast.

I don't really listen to rock, but if I was to pick I'd say Indie Rock bands I normally enjoy more than the others. I cringe every time I have to listen to ACDC, with or without Bon. (Sorry Nightprowler) :p

and I'd classify Coldplay/Killers/Snow Patrol/The Fray as alternative rock.

I think calling the killers alternative rock is going a little too far, especially after Day & Age. They are Synth Pop, sometimes even dance.

Indie rock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Very wrong buddy. Bands from Death Cab for Cutie, to Artic Monkeys are Indie rock. They both are very very popular bands, with a label. Indie music is a genre now. :)

They are "Indie Rock" though, so they still fit in this thread.

Indie rock is one of the biggest sellers of all the "rock," class. Even I can see that, I can't argue with stats :p I hate indie, don't like the stupid voices and stupid music they put out. But, I can see why people like it. I think the major reason I hate it is because Indie is quite mainstream, i've seen enough unsigned Indie bands who made my ears bleed to know underground is best kepts exactly that with Indie.

The drums are great, it's the first thing I've heard which had me air-drumming instead of air-guitaring! :p And the speed is awesome, it's like the musical version of those video clips which give people epileptic seizures :p
