Second Review of SAc2k4patch v1.3a
Well this is the second match Ive played (not completed) using this patch, and have experienced a completely different gameplay from what I did in the first match.
Just for reference, in my first test I found it hard to score boundaries, and score easy runs while battings (which is a great sign). I also found it very tough to dismiss the Indian batsman. Players like Sehwag and Tendulkar played like their true selves, while Dravid, and Laxman played in their usual slightly defensive approach. This as far as I can remember was on a normal pitch and under normal conditions (apart from the last day, when I made the conditions as overcast to try and have some showers on the last day -- to avoid defeat -- but dint work out). So at the end I lost that test match.
Well the second test was at Edgbaston. The wicket was a damp one, with low bounce. As recommended by Jim Maxwell, and also by common sense, I decied to bat first, after winning the toss. Batting here was even harder than it was at Lords. The bounce was extremely low, and despite having blue skies overhead, the ball was swinging a lot. (especially in-swing). After having horrid start and at one stage at 33/3, I managed to score 335. I had to play really carefully, scoring most of my runs in singles, and at the run rate of about 3.5 per over. The run rate was as low as 2 rpo at one stage, and increased towards the end of the days play when the Indian bowlers started to look tired and bowled too many deliveries wide outside the offstump. But Batting was very difficult.
However, the CPU couldnt handle the low bounce and swing at all. I dismissed the CPU for 85 in the 1st Innings, and in the 2nd Innings they were 34/3....but have clawed back to 177/7, thanks to some sensible batting from Tendulkar and Ganguly. But its only the third day, and I dont see the game lasting the full day today(at Lunch). It might get over before tea!
So my question is...is it possible to adjust the AI of the CPU so that it plays not only according to the situation and the score scored by the opposition, but also according to the pitch it is batting on. Otherwise, this patch is really very promising. It is the best patch for Test Matches, I feel.
Havent tried it yet for the ODIs. I will be using Tutsi's v6 for the ODIs, as tutsi seems to have released his new patch to improve ODI gameplay. And the initial reviews from manojkumar and the others seem to indicate that it is a good patch for ODIs.
