I woke up after a decent sleep and felt really good when I got up in the morning. I wasn?t tight at all and it felt like the old days when I could run a mile without stretching. As we went downstairs I noticed Ojha and Singh not eating much and they both decided that it was better not to, I prefer to eat and took my fair share before we headed to the ground. When we got to the SCG it was bright and sunny and the pitch was a true road. It was hard flat and I was happy that although it would probably turn in the second innings batting was the place to be and all you want to do is win the toss and bat, bat, bat.
I hope I can get a big score in the series opener
After we had warmed up Dhoni went out, won the toss and chose to bat first. It was exactly what I had wanted to do and we padded up with the confidence very high. Sehwag and Raul were planning to take the attack and try to put the Aussies on the back-foot early on in the match. I to be honest had no idea and was planning to play the situation and just try to go out and bat. The Aussies were opening with Johnson and Hopes which was very surprising especially when Lee and Bracken were expected. Whether there plan would work or not I was unsure but in a way I was relieved as I know how dangerous Lee is in any circumstances.
The fans are pumped for a big match
We started very well with Sehwag and Dravid scoring well and taking 57 from the first 10. Hopes bowled good lines but Johnson was poor and Sehwag especially took him apart. Both batted well and the pitch is looking incredible for batting, then the next 4 overs they scored another 20 odd runs before Bracken joined Lee at the pavilion end and after his first ball being firmly dispatched over his head for four he returned to his mark and gave Sehwag a peach. Bracken put the ball straight across Sehwag and once again he went for the big drive, it swung late caught the edge and went straight to point and the Aussies went crazy, I was almost up before the umpire raised his finger and as I got to the crease I could feel the intensity in the field. I took guard and looked up to Bracken as he steamed into bowl?.
On my way out to face left handed Bracken
It was length just outside off and nipped in, I got forward head over the ball and blocked it carefully. The ball rocketed to cover and I couldn?t believe my timing. The next ball was the same delivery and I just punched it through the covers, it just went and rocketed over the rope for four runs, I was incredibly happy with it and just hoped I could capitalize on my early timing. Well I have to say I have capitilized, Rahul and I have put on 97 in 13 overs and were both going really well. The Aussies mixed up the bowled but Hogg especially gave us too much to hit and Rahul got to 72 from 85 balls batting with aggression and power to put us in a position to really win this game. I feel I am going really really well and have got to 53* from 43 balls and am still there feeling very good. Rahul went off the bowling off Hogg and after he had gone for 36 from 3 overs he tossed up a wrong-un and beat Rahul all ends up. The ball pitched on middle went straight through and got him plumb in front. 172-2 with 23 overs to go and a big score on the cards.
A good 50 but hopefully I can convert
It?s the end of the innings and our weak batting order has not been shown today. I went caught by Ponting off the bowling off Hogg for 56 and felt in good form. Laxman came in and blasted 69 from 71 followed by Dhoni hitting 52* from 41. We showed awesome ability with the bat as 4 people hit fifties and Sehwag got 36 as we reached 316-5 at the end of the overs. The score is prity decent and I think it is easily a winning total. The Aussies will have to chase well and a lot depends on the spinners as we do have 3 of them.
Laxman blasts India to 316
WOW, 10 overs and 72-0. Hayden has come out and blasted 44 from only 31 balls hitting everything and giving them a basis to win the match. Hussey has scored 28 from 29 and now they have a solid base to win the match. However there is a long way to go and its Khan who was smashed about. He got hit for 49 from his 5 overs and really was just dispatched, with 245 at 6 an over with 10 wickets in hand its game on and the spinners are now coming on to bowl.
Hayden destroys Khan and gives Australia perfect position
31 overs and 199-1, Mahendra and Kumble had a bit of an argument as Ojha bowled his 10 overs straight through and went for 73 runs without taking a wicket. Singh on the other hand took the one wicket getting Hayden caught and bowled for 67(54) ad bringing Ponting to the crease who has scored 54*(45) and with Hussey on 76*(89) Kumble and the quicks are going to have to do something magical. I may get a bowl if Khan gets hit about but I really don?t know.
Ponting puts Australia in position to win the first ODI
Well considering the situation the match could go either way with Australia needing 66 from 10 with 7 wickets in hand. Hussey(76) and then Symonds(7) were both run out leaving Australia on the back foot, Ponting is still gunning with 83*(79) and if we are to win he is going to have to be dismissed. Kumble and Sreesanth have 5 each for the last 10 and the question is which way it will go.
We need to join together to win this
Yes India, we wrapped it up with Kumble taking 5 wickets and Sreesanth taking 2 at the end of the day. The Australians just collapsed losing 5 wickets for just 1 run and the last 7 for a total of 79. So we have won and not just a win but in the end a comprehensive victory. Ponting finished on 107(101) and batted better than anyone I have played against in a long time. Well what a win and im looking forward to tomorrow. Will write in the next game as it happens and the fantasy cricket will be shown at the bottom of this page.
