Scotland started off the chase slowly but steadily. Knowing they only had to score at 3.5 an over to win there was no need to take any risks. The Australians were left cursing their field placings as both opening batsmen edged through the vacant 2nd slip region.
McGrath also produced this superb delivery to Lockhart which narrowly missed the outside edge.

More was the first batsman to perish though, slog sweeping Glenn McGrath straight into the hands of Ricky Ponting on the square leg boundary. Gavin Hamilton followed just two overs later; failing to pick up the Kasprovicz yorker and paying for it with his wicket:

At the 15 over mark, Scotland were behind the Australians score but above the runrate required:

English and Lockhart put on 50 for the 3rd wicket again scoring steadily:

Lockhart with a dazzling array of pulls and drives bringing up his 50:

Jason Gillespie, called into the attack had an immediate effect removing English with his second ball. A top edge going safely to Kasprovicz at point:

Disaster struck in the same over though when Lockhart was dropped by the same man:

With 25 overs gone and the game still in the balance, who could tell if it would prove crucial?

Nice layout, scotland are looking good for the win if they keep wickets in hand!

lol what a laugh that was, you give the scot players full stats? there not that good lol.Take a long look at Scotlands strange good performance because it will never happen :)

COME ON YOU AUSTRALIANS BEAT THE SCOTS :D

I didn't set the stats, Ryand did and they certainly don't have particularly high abilities.
That said you have Gavin Hamilton, who has played for England, Dougie Brown who has been a top performer for Warwickshire, Gregor Maiden who's played for Lancashire, John Blain, who's now with Durham, Craig Wright who is just amazing. It's a decent side...
I honestly think this game could go either way. My batting lineup isn't very deep, the last two specialist batsmen are in already, and they have McGrath, Lee, Gillespie and Kasprovicz.
I'll just hope that dropping Lockhart will be crucial :)

Two seasons ago Ryan Watson hit the fastest ever one day century in a match at the Grange in Edinburgh. Facing a Somerset attack featuring Andrew Caddick, Nixon McClean and Richard Johnson, he demolished them hitting the ball all over the park to record the century off just 43 balls. Today against the Australians he showed again just how destructive he can be. He hit 3 6s off the 27th over from Kasprovicz and you could noticably see the Australian heads drop:

By the time he departed, mis-timing a slog off Brett Lee, Scotland needed just 29 to win:

Dougie Brown came to the crease and was immediately given the treatment by a fired-up Lee, being hit on the head in his first over. Brown however rode the storm and saw Lee off for unimpressive figures of 10 overs for 53.

Darren Lehmann into the attack was slowing the scoring rate but nothing could stop Scotland's inexorable march to victory; Lockhart and Brown content to take the singles and punish the bad balls.
Lockhart laces Lehmann through the covers for 4:

The Scotland opener narrowly missed out on a century as he guided Scotland to victory in the 37th over, remaining unbeaten on 93:

The Natwest Man of the Match was Dougie Lockhart for his match winning innings.

Australian captain Ricky Ponting was generous in defeat but bitterly disappointed:
R.P: We've gone out there today and we haven't performed. All credit to Scotland, they kept it tight and in the end none of our batsmen or bowlers emerge with much credit from this performance. I though Lockhart played fantastic. We can wonder about what might have happened if we hadn't dropped him but at the end of the day Scotland deserved to win and we're out.
C.W: This is a great day for Scottish cricket. Today we've gone out there and we've proved that not only can we compete with the best in the world, we can beat them. I'm so proud of all of guys. Hoff, Gav, Gregor, Blainy, Browny and of course Lockie. The bowlers put it in the right places and gave us a target we could chase. We always thought that if we could keep them under 250 we would have a chance but I don't think any of us believed we could win.
D.L: Obviously it's a very special feeling. I'm not too worried about missing out on the century, the team comes first. We'll just be hoping that we can play like this again and that we get England in the next round.

Interviewer: What did Brett Lee say to you?
Dougie Brown: Oh he was just pointing out that he can bowl a bit faster than I can so I'd better watch out once I had the pads on. Not those exact words but that was the gist of it.
I: How much did you see of that 94mph bouncer that hit you on the head?
D.B: Not a lot to be honest, but I was still there at the end so that's what counts really. Plus I got him out.

Interviewer: How does it feel to beat the Aussies?
Ryan Watson: Well, I was brought up in South Africa so it's a bit of national pastime. I was just pleased to do my bit.
I: and what about that Kasprovicz over? How crucial was that to the game?
R.W: I just caught those three 6s really sweetly and they sailed over the rope. Another day, square leg may have caught them. I think that really gave us the momentum and the belief to go on and win.

That concludes this match. Scotland will play the winners of Sri Lanka vs England in the semi-finals. Tune in next time.

What?? Am I Dreaming!!!????

Anyways well played mate. Beating the Aussies is always great!!!

Crucial innings there by Lockhart and Watson, which made the difference at the end I feel. But the Aussie batting performance was terrible.

Hey Great performance Colin.
I'm still don't know how u bowlde the aussies out so easily.
The player attributes have been done carefully. That's why some players like watson, lockhart, brown & of course hamilton have done well.
Anyway, i feel that scotland r the best of the associate members at present as they did win last year's inaugural intercontinental cup.

The next match should be great.
