So what? Just enjoy it for what it is - an enjoyable write up of a computer game.

A big fat 'word' to that.
Wouldn't be quite so fun for me if I was getting slaughtered. I think confusing reality with fantasy is the main problem here.
Computer games let you be the best footballer/mamger in the world etc
No-one says when you win Champman with your club, 'what's the point of that?'
I live in Edinburgh, I've been to a lot of the Scotland games in the last few seasons and know a few of the players so why shouldn't I put the team into C2k4 and take on the might of the world. I might even give the whole story to them for the next match day programme! :p

Watson and More began to dig in with the fielding restrictions lifted, happy to push the singles. More brought up his first ODI 50 off 44 balls:

The odd boundary was still coming; these two beauties among them:

However More's patience couldn't hold and trying to launch another boundary he mis-cued to square leg:

Scotland promoted Colin Smith to number 6 to leave the specialist slogger Dougie Brown for later on. Smith had extreme difficulty early on against Flintoff and Collingwood but managed to stay with Watson through the crucial middle overs.
Watson brought up his 50 off 50 balls with yet another trademark coverdrive:

Smith saw Scotland through to a useful 253 off 40 overs before considerately perishing to a wonderful Ashley Giles delivery to allow the big hitting Brown into the game:

Scotland had a very useful platform from which to blast away in the last 10 overs. Brown was showing off his full array of strokes:

Watson, though, was playing for his 100, abjoring risk to make sure he got there. He almost didn't, surviving this leg before appeal on 94:

He finally made it in the 47th over:

Two balls later however, trying to hit Collingwood over cover, he lost his offstump:

A tremendous innings of 104.
Gregor Maiden, on his first delivery, pulled off the shot Watson had been attempting, smashing Collingwood out of the ground for 6:

Maiden though perished the very next over to Kabir Ali who managed to bowl the 49th over for just 6 runs.
The final over, by Harmison, was all England. Dougie Brown hit the first yorker for 4 but managed to find the fielder at point with the second ball:

and he was followed back into the pavilion by Craig Wright: (caught in the deep for 4)

and Paul Hoffman: (caught at point again)

as Harmison proved how dangerous he can be at the death by bowling Scotland out off the last delivery.

England will consider themselves fortunate not to be chasing a bigger score after the Scottish innings fell apart in the final two overs.

England require 329 to win at 6.58 an over. The pitch is still good so if they can keep wickets in hand they'll fancy their chances.
England innings tomorrow.

edit: Just noticed Dougie Brown's spider is completely wrong. This is caused by me promoting him up the order and then saving etc. Nothing I can do to get the real one unfortunately

That's one hell of a total. I know you're involved in teacher training, but go easy on the red dots on that manhattan!! :)

I told you my lower order was vulnerable. This is why I took is easy after 15.

wow great total colin... now you just need to bolw good and you can get Scotland into the finals:D

versus India or Pakistan...
Anyhow, bowling is my strong point :)

England came out to bat with the pitch still in great condition. Trescothick though looked badly out of touch as Brinkley and Hoffman consistantly beat the outside edge:

Brinkley even produced a maiden in the 3rd over of the match as both England batsmen struggled to lay bat on ball or beat the field. After 14 deliveries Trescothick's confidence was still rock bottom and it was no suprise when a lack of foot movement made him miss one that Hoffman seamed back in:

The captain, Micheal Vaughan, came to the crease and was given a fiery welcome by Hoffman:

He gradually began to grow in confidence though hitting some delightful boundaries in an unbeaten stand of 43 with Strauss:
