Last time they started talking him up as captain he lost form and got dropped. If they groom him for the captaincy too much and he loses his form as drastically as last time, then they're going to look foolish if they drop him. Ponting will outlast Gilly anyway, wait until Gilly retires and Clarke might be ready for it.

Clarke shouldn't be given the captaincy anyway. His to much of a twat. Didn't you see what Chris Gayle did to him? An embarrassment for Australian Cricket - Past captains like Steve Waugh & Ricky Ponting would never take that sorta crap. We don't need a push-over as our captain! He'd also be the first captain in awhile not to average over 50 in First-Class & Test Cricket which is a step down a class. Be better off giving Ponting the captaincy for another several years and waiting for another young talent to rise up & blossum and develop them.
