Should India and Pakistan play a Series?

Well when you guys kept beating us, our team was at least good and popular and so people went with the hope of seeing these players pull off wins against Pakistan. But I cant say the same of the current Pakistan team. Where are the great players like the Inzamam's or the Akram's or the Younis's or even the Akthar's? Now there is even no Afridi and the rest of the guys just dont inspire the hope and show no glimpses of greatness.

Rankings doesn't matter when India and Pakistan play each other. Whatever 11 both sides play, they absolutely give their 100% and try to win it. These contests always end up as close close encounters, even in the SF though Indian team was much stronger on paper the match was closely fought and if it wasn't for Misbah who knows what could have the result been.

Dude you gotta learn to argue with the right people. You can have healthy discussion with a few Indian fans on the forum, but you should keep away from the rest. Although I do agree with the part that the mods should close away threads like these whose main point is never understood.

And to get it straight, playing India is a huge bonus for BOTH sides. If you are in the misconception that its a money-maker for only Pakistan you are mistaken. We have been living without playing India for a while and we can keep doing that as well. And rivalrys ended? When was it about ratings? We played India plenty of times when we were one of the top sides in World Cricket without fuss. And dont we throw the form out of the window when we play games likes these?

PCB has done its job at offering hands of friendship and offering to play series, but its the signs from across the border that are not as welcoming. We have done our apart, but if India dont want to play then no ones forcing them.

Brilliant philosophy Sai! :thumbs

very good point. its just that i thought i had to stand up against some pretty ridiculous comments being made on this forum.
but on the matter of cricket, lets not get carried away, a second string pakistan team almost beat india in the wc semis and if it wasnt for the dropped catches pakistan would have won the match easy.
no matter how good india is or thinks it is pakistan will always provide a stern test and this series will make more money for the BCCI than any encounter with SA, AUS, ENG :facepalm so thats just a silly argument to say it wont.
and on the matter of the PCB needing India, don't be foolish, pakistan hasn't needed them for the last 5 years or so and dont need them now.

Seriously Sai, don't tell me India-Pakistan rivalry in Cricket is long gone or something. You should have been here during the WC semi final. It was crazy, absolute madness even before the match had started. This rivalry is there, will always be. I follow it passionately.

You can have more than one rival, for sure. NZ vs Aus can get quite heated and you wouldn't think there's any real reason for it.

Players come and go, it doesnt really matter in the long run. Pakistan can still beat India any day, as the gilmpses shown in the semi-final where the Indian Crowd was almost like dead when they see that their batting powerhouse team got restricted to just 260 runs.

Why not have the courage and start playing matches with Pakistan? Don't involve political situations into sports because that debate will never end.

i want to see more encounters between India and Pakistan on cricket field and honestly thought that Manmohan Singh's gesture of inviting the Pakistan's President for the game was a positive one.

But a team full of fools lead by a captain who speaks without thinking, completely put me off. Pakistan cricket would continue to rot if senseless players like Shahid Afridi are whom the fans admire. His public interview belittling not only Indian media but Indians' hospitality as a whole, completely wiped off any positive progress that was made towards improving cricketing relations.

Second string???Who was missing to make it a second string side??or maybe you dont know what second string means.

Didn't you say you only watch matches involving India? If so, how can you say these guys don't "inspire hope" or "show glimpses of greatness"? From the one match India played against Pakistan in the World Cup? What you're saying might be true, and probably is, but how would you know?

I only watch matches involving India ON VIDEO.:D

That explains all the massive hype before the semi-final :rolleyes

It was a World Cup India-Pakistan game, and Pakistan's good showing till then in the tournament helped the hype. I am not saying there is no hype at all in India-Pakistan contests, but it just doesnt feel the same as it did some 6-8 years back.

i am not saying India is not a good Team but at least our team do well in ICC events and that's what everybody prepares for 4 years

I would trade all of that for the World Cup. I'm sorry I had to be the one to tell you, but India won that, Pakistan is still World Cup-less since 1992. You can try to make yourself feel better all you like but I think we both know that you would give up all of those ICC events for a World Cup triumph.

Anyways, moving on.

I would love an India-Pakistan series but relations between the two countries remain strained and it would require crazy amounts of security for it to take place and even then it's a risk. Maybe in a neutral venue. I don't think UAE is the place for it. Maybe England as there would be an equal number of Indian and Pakistani fans. However, England might be unwilling to host Pakistan under suspicion of match/spot-fixing, and rightly so. Also, they may be unwilling, as a nation to bear the burden and the risk of hosting such a potentially disastrous event.

... and Sai, the hype is actually more than ever now. I don't think an India-Pakistan match has ever gotten as much hype as it did in CWC2011 and that had nothing to do with how either team had done in the tournament until then. People were (wrongly) treating it as a war and the players were put under unimaginable pressure by the media and the hordes of Indian fans.

I dont think security for a cricket game is such a big issue considering unless its held in Pakistan or if some ****** politician is threatening it (as far as I know none from our side). The fans are tolerant, always have been but I think Dubai would be the IDEAL place to hold it. Neutral + alot of support for both teams.

ah if you read it,I was just Saying our current team Does better than they are capable to,Even India got 2 first round exits recently but we reached atleast Semi Final .:facepalm who said I am taking India's credit of Winning WC

For cricket sake, Don't include politics in cricket. I love indo-pak rivalry and would prefer it any day over Ind-Eng, Ind-Aus. It is played under feelings, passion, emotions and immense pressure which I doubt you will find in any other series.

Never gonna happen. Cricket is more than a game in India. Remember west refused to participate in Olympics in USSR and Vice Versa. Pakistan and other Islamic countries (and India for political reasons) have not allowed Israel to participate in the Asian games.

The same hospitality being shown to the Pakistanis for the Champions League? Of course it is hospitable to invite teams from every test playing nation, except Pakistan.

Give me a break. If India had it their way they would never invite Pakistan for even a cup of tea.
