Windows Media centre seems to have a different start menu to normal windows. What I would give to get one of those.

XP Media Center Edition is not available as a piece of software(OS) in market. One has to buy a complete PC package from microsoft authorized dealers which accompanies the operating system.
On about how good it is?.. well generally it is same as Windows XP Pro with slight changes in its looks. Ofcoarse with the major inclusion of the green button!

imo ..... it rocks! :clap

if u want more details or screens of media center then you can ask me or google which ever u prefer ;)

Yep I know all about XP Media Center. Its probably too late now to buy one since Windows Vista is coming out soon.

Not replace, if you buy a Media Center it comes with that. You can't install it anywhere else as its only for the Media Center. Also its basically the same as XP but with the added Media features.

can't we buy it separately?
like if we have windows xp so can we add that without any data loss?

here's mine with different wallpapers

I use http://www.deviantart.com/ , mostly very good quality stuff

If you use a uxtheme.dll patch (here) you can use themes without having programs like that taking up resources on your computer, and of course you don't have to pay for anything.

Brad, I installed the uxtheme patch, but how do I add new themes?

Actually, I downloaded one from deviantart and put it in the themes folder, but I couldn't get it under the Appearance tab in Properties.

Nope, I don't know why you would want it separately. All of the new stuff are for the Windows Media Center.

the reason is my computer came with windows xp home edition and recovery discs and i can't install any other windows if i do so i won't get the sound becoz the sound driver at the compaq's website only works with the windows that they have already installed for me. i tried the windows xp pro but didn't get the sound coz the sound driver isn't compitable with windows xp pro. thats why i was asking that if i can buy windows media centre edition 2005 separately and add it with my current windows xp home edition.
