Well the referee blew for a free kick 23-25 yards outside the box. England, leading through Frank Lampard's header, needed to withstand 3 more minutes to make a fantastic win over France in their opening match of Euro 2004. It could have been much different if Fabien Barthez had not saved a penalty from David Beckham. Up steps Zidane and he curls in the free kick fantasticly past the helpless David James. England fans now slightly dishearted but happy at least for a point. But then Steven Gerrard's sloppy backpass leaves Henry one-on-one with James who upends him. James is shown the yellow card and the referee points to the spot for a penalty! Zinedine Zidane tucks away the penalty with the last kick of the game...England fans sob while French fans look on with great pride at their team's performance.
Note to Sven, use someone else who can score as a penalty-taker.
