When you run what?

Could be caused when a DLL fails to register correctly during an application install, in which case reinstall if you get it when running a specific application.

If you are running a C++ application, Msvcrt.dll could be out of date, try searching around for a newer version.

Have you recently changed any regional settings? Check the date settings match your country settings.

Your registry might have incorrect/corrupt entries, try a registry scanner.

Of course it could be viral, quite a few viruses can give you errors like this.

MS DCOM or Stdole32.Tlb could be missing or damaged. Do you use Excel? Do you get the problem when running that? Maybe that's the cause. Can get these at the Microsoft website.

Think thats enough things for you to try for now.

Oh. You mean explorer resets.
That could be an issue with some of the *ahem* "video" files in that folder. Sometimes, avi's can cause problems, coz they are encoded in various formats, which windows is unable to recognize.

Do you have norton installed on your computer? :noway

I think it could be due to that.
Found something on the net :

go to: control panel/internet options/programs/manage add ons/

find norton confidential browser helper in the list

[add ons that have been used by internet explorer]

then click "disable" at the bottom of window where it says "settings."

then click "OK"

will require restart.

On the subject of AVI's, there's a reg hack which will disable the Windows in-built video file previewer. Try it and the explorer will stop crashing. Should be easy to find on google.

I am having some booting problems with my XP machine. sometimes when there is a power cut here (purely Indian :p) without notice the PC shuts off automatically and when I boot again (when power is back ofcourse) I get some error "Windows file missing or corrupt C:\Windows\system32\config\system." It tells me to repair using recovery console on the Windows disc I also tried that but failed. The current solution is to format my PC and re-install Windows. I need a solution so I do not have to format my PC and lose my data.

If anyone has had problem with voice while playing VOB files on PS3 just make new folders for every VOB file and enjoy.

Your immediate solution could be anywhere between trying everything possible. :p Sorry in a hurry but what you can do is get a UPS so it doesn't happen again.

He needs Luminous invertor and Sukam battery.

Do you have another OS Installed?
If you have, there is a way to repair the existing XP. Go to the system volume information folder, and select any _restore{"random characters"} folder.
now select any restore point folder (eg : RP 20)
Open the snapshot folder
there will be a file called : _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM
Copy this file to C:\windows\system32\config\
rename the file "system" to "system_old".
Now rename the file "_REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM" to "SYSTEM"

Restart your computer in safe mode, and restore from a previous restore point. This will ensure that your computer is stable.

If you don't have another OS installed, you can try to do this process through the Windows XP Recovery console. I am not sure whether you will be able to access the system volume information folder or not. If you can, Follow the above instuctions, else, you're stuck.

If you want to save your data, install another copy of Windows XP in another drive, and do what I said above. Then, you can format the other disk to remove the OS, or keep it for emergency uses.

Most probably replacing only "SYSTEM" won't work. You will have to copy :
1. _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SAM => rename to SAM
2. _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SECURITY => rename to SECURITY
3. _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE => rename to SOFTWARE
4. _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM => rename to SYSTEM
5. _REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT => rename to DEFAULT

I've received two BSoD errors today. Can anyone tell me what the problems are?

Cheers.
