South African Tour of the West Indies, May-June 2010

Couple of nice inswingers from Pascal. In the modern game, producing reverse swing is a necessity on these slow and dry wickets. Teams have to have bowlers who can do it, but more importantly, captains have to be looking for it.

Spinners do get wickets, but it seems that they lose grip on the game when batsmen get set. There's just not enough to surprise a set batsman.

UNLUCKY. Should have kept the referrals...

SA might be in a bit of trouble with only harris in the team. looks like a spinners track.

still, it's gutting to see the west indies pitches like this.

Anyone think SA can still win this one? Hoping they pick up at least 3-4 wickets before the end of play today (assuming they themselves get out quickly now)

I guess Boucher has a point to prove, and am happy that they will close out the days play, it could have been tricky for our openers to come out and face any kind of over(s) this afternoon!!!

There's turn in the surface and maybe even a good dose of dodgy bounce, but a team could certainly try harder to get wickets with pace. The conditions lend themselves to reverse swing, so South Africa could find that much sooner, as the West Indies used no pace at all between the 20th and 57th overs. They might have even found reverse swing out of the second ball by the end of the innings, but they also withheld that ball for 26 overs.

Pascal looked better than a guy who got 11 out of 130 overs. Likewise, Rampaul probably didn't justify his 19. Rampaul has decent pace and gets movement, but he bowls too many bad balls and is too wide on the crease for his own good. If he bowled more stump-to-stump, he'd fire far fewer balls down the leg side and look more deadly with his good balls.

More in South Africa's favour are the question marks that make up the West Indies' batting order. There are some grafters in there, but they'll all need to dig in. Sometimes 350 is the upper limit for them on a great pitch. The pace of Steyn and the bounce of Morkel might still be very effective shock weapons.

I really think the windies owe bangladesh a rematch if they're going to constantly whine about not having their first team available when they were beat 2-0. they're woeful anyway.

Dont understand why they sent Nash in at #3. He was perfect for number 5 and he should have stayed there. Deonarine should have come in.

Morkel's figures read 10-7-9-4 at the moment. Great stuff from him so far. Steyn's figures ain't too shabby either.

woo hoo my bet is safe! Too hot to handle I spose, just sad I missed it. can't wait for highlights tonight.

God damn I love Dale Steyn!

in this spell, to the left handers in particular, steyn has been brilliant.

mcgrath always went on about aiming to hit the top of off-stump, styens being doing at high pace from around the wickets. windies batsmen haven't offered any resistance though.

ramdin isn't even doing the basics right, first ball of the over and he gets off strike and puts a guy with a FC average of 4 on.
