South African Tour of the West Indies, May-June 2010

If South Africa didn't have to depend on someone as scratchy as Duminy, they might have won those last two a bit easier. Of course, they could do worse, but as it was, the West Indies just couldn't produce matches where South Africa needed substantially more than just Amla, Kallis and de Villiers to be brilliant. If Duminy was under real pressure to score when he came in to bat, it would almost certainly have been more calamitous.

However, I could see that working against them in the Tests, if the Windies can find a bowler or two.
They'll be adding Prince who has performed in England in recent times, so RSA will have an extra batsman at least.

Hey Rabs any news on the warm up match that the South Africans will play. Are they going to Jamaica to play it or will they stay in T&T. It says the warm up is in Spanish Town but its close to Kingston and I presume that they would have to land in Kingston.
Also any news on the team that the Safers will face?

West Indies squad for the first test.
Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Bravo, Shiv Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Sulieman Benn, Travis Dowlin, Brendan Nash, Nelon Pascal, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Darren Sammy, Shane Shillingford

So no Jerome Taylor:facepalm this guy just cant stay fit, I just hope that Roach is fully fit and can be at full pace. I hope that Shillingford gets in over Benn so we can see if he has what it takes to play at this level. I am really surprised that they dropped Dale Richards, he did really well in the ODIs imo, he could be injured because he was carrying a bit of a injury in the final ODI.
Really interested in what XI it will be.

Is Barath still injured?. Plus where is Gavin Tonge?.

Yea Barath is out with a knee/hamstring injury. He was in the dressing room with the team during the final ODI and Tony Cozier said that he will probably miss the test series.
Tonge is with the A team in England, they have a match that starts tomorrow against Glamorgan. They said that Darren Bravo was also going with the A team but that was before Sarwan got injured so they kept him in T&T. I would have preferred for him to be with the A team and take part in this tour of England, it would have done him allot of good.

Honestly I had hopes of a drawn series if the WI had a fully fit side with Roach and Taylor as main bowlers with Sarwan, Shiv and Barath being fit but now I just hope that WI don't get swept.
The guys that are in the team now will have to play out of their skin to draw this.

I find it very odd that they would call up Pascal for this series & leave Tonge in the A side over here. Surely it should be the other way around with Taylor out. Tonge is by far the more complete bowler for test cricket.

If Pascal had impressed that much. They could picked both Pascal & Tonge - but leave Rampaul out who isn't a test bowler IMO.

Plus i reckon Darren Bravo had to be in this squad with Sarwan out.

They had similar stats on the tour of Bangladesh. Pascal was a bit more expensive but that isn't something new and they new this for a long time. Maybe they wanted a bit more pace to go with Roach because everyone else is much slower for the exception of Rampaul who is around Tonge pace but cant reach Pascal.
Pascal might not even play in this match unless Roach isn't fully fit. They will probably opt for Rampaul and Sammy if they decide to go in with 3 pace bowlers or just Roach and Ravi if they go with 2 spinners.

Cant leave out the guy who has been a consistent performer over the past 6 months or so.
Rampaul was the leading WI wicket taker in the ODI series against the Aussies.
To be honest I don't see much difference in Rampaul and Tonge. Both operate at around the same pace and have just about the same abilities. The only reason I like Tonge a bit more is because of his height which means some extra bounce. He always rolls his fingers over the ball trying to get a offcutter, that was all he did in the one test against the Ausses, its like his stock ball.

Plus i reckon Darren Bravo had to be in this squad with Sarwan out.
Well he has to be there now that Sarwan is out but it would have been much better for him to be touring England then getting exposed by the best bowler in the world.

I havent been able to find a single article or info on Jason Holder. He was not part of the team that went to Bangladesh and he is not part of the team that is in England atm. He should be taken care of and given every chance to learn and improve, he is the future.

Seems that duminy is winning the batout vs prince in the warmup game. Everyone got runs except prince. Going to be an interesting selection.

Don't think parnell has recovered from his injury so either mcclaren or tsotsobe to play.

West Indies (probable) 1 Chris Gayle (capt), 2 Travis Dowlin, 3 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 4 Darren Bravo, 5 Brendan Nash, 6 Dwayne Bravo (vice-capt), 7 Denesh Ramdin, 8 Darren Sammy, 9 Sulieman Benn/Shane Shillingford, 10 Kemar Roach, 11 Ravi Rampaul.

Looks about right except I get a feeling that Deonarine might get in ahead of Darren Bravo. I would prefer young Bravo ahead of Deonarine but he doesn't offer anything other then his batting while Deonarine offers some spin so they might go with him.

Dare, I noticed his name on that article on cricinfo about the windies plans for improving. I think he's in some sort of development scheme where he's off with a bunch of other players to a high-tech training centre, so they are at least intending to look after him, but they must not rate him ready for the full team.

no braithwaite though, which might indicate he's getting seriously considered for the full team in the short term.

Dont know if anyone has reliased. But if Steyn gets the 4 wickets needed in this test to take his 200th test wicket. He will become the 3rd fastest bowler in test history to 200 test wickets - behind Lillee & Waqar Younis who did it in 38 tests.

I hope he gets it in this test. Since it will cap off a fantastic 4 year period since he became a fixture in the Saffies side in April 2006.

I think he should get them quite easily. Really hope we get some play in today. I bey heavy on South Africa and the draw is scaring me now

Braithwaite's with the A team, so yeah, he wouldn't be considered for the development program, and being in the A team means he is being seriously considered for the full team.
