Thanks for using Test cricket stats to support your argument, this is not the thread to be discussing this topic however. Maybe its a good idea to open a specific thread for the AB De topic, which myself together with others will discuss it further.

Also if I came across as being rude, accept please my apologies it was not my intention.

I appreciate that. May be I over reacted too, don't know. Cheers.

It is not just that. I have no issue with commentators taking a stand and trying to make the viewer see something that they have. After all, they've been there, we've not. But, Manjrekar makes a nicumpoop look intelligent. He is someone who rides the crest of the wave and swings with the wind. He was screaming from the rooftops when MSD was wielding the willow in the second ODI. You can't do that. The public is too smart for it. It may have worked earlier, but with the advent of technology his incompetence is glaringly obvious.

Let me just point out a few flaws-

1) In the fourth ODI mid innings show, he had the audacity to say 'Kohli was using the late cut to good effect today, a lot like I did when I used to bat.' I'm sorry, but what? If Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly or a VVS Laxman says that, I get it. There is a reverence for those guys. Manjrekar actually should be a presenter (in the mould of Bhogle) with the added advantage of having played. But, Harsha Bhogle is basically so far beyond so many of our presenters and commentators that it's ridiculous. Apart from him and the duo of Ganguly and Dravid, none of them would get a job at a channel like 9/Sky. And, 9/Sky aren't the greatest, but they are products you can swallow.

2) Manjrekar uses a lot of stats to prove his points. I've been watching cricket for more than twenty years now and while they have their place in broadcasting it's overused these days. Perhaps, it gives Manjrekar something concrete to say because otherwise it's mostly RUBBISH.

3) There have been a lot of presenters in sports history that aren't accurate with details and facts but their charisma, voice and genuine love and passion for the sport makes the audience love them. F1 had Murray Walker, Cricket had Tony Greig and I'm not certain of the guy that commentates every fifa final of the world cup, but him. Manjrekar is nowhere in this category either.

In my opinion, he's a pest or a worm that criticises people for the sake of himself. He doesn't believe what he says. For me, that's cheating the viewer.

Dhoni's comments:

On No. 7: "We have tried Stuart Binny, people have criticised that also but if you talk of allrounders in India, your best seaming allrounder is Stuart Binny, your two best spinning allrounders are Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Whether you like it or don't like it, these are the best we have so we have to make the most out of them."

Someone needs to tell Rishi Dhawan to take off that invisibility cloak. Because clearly people cant see him

Wow ha, that's some hard hitting criticism of Manjrekar

Generally speaking on the commentating thing It has to be unbiased, For me I haven't seen anyone more objective and unbiased other than Bill Lawry, Tony Grieg and Bumble. It feels like they loved the game and cricket was bigger to them relative to any country or top players be it their home team. It appears to me that commentary has now become an easy and secondary job as every retired player is now coming straight to the commentary box right away. It is an art not known by every cricketer and for me this is injustice with this art. You can invite retired players as an expert opinion makers but at least take an entry test or interview them that they should not biased before giving them a commentary job..... lol.. tough to figure out but where there is a will there is a way

What on earth has happened to Bhuvi? Please don't become another I.Pathan. And why/how is he bowling at 135-140 kmph speeds?

Its nice to see Sachin remarks on AB categorizing him ahead of his time which seems quite true. Tendulkar lauds AB de Villiers, says the South African is way ahead of his time

As far as his point of scoring more runs by teams due to new rules, I sort of disagree to an extent. Its not just more about the rules rather than the overall mindset of players, tournaments and some sheer hard hitting talent players are possessing and getting used to it. IPL has played a bigger part in this I believe. I remember Australia used to score as many runs as possible in that old era of Sachin and Ponting even when IPL wasn't there, so in one hand you can't really just say its about the new rules its about pace of cricket as well like it or not.

Was following the SA practise game, as there is all this hype around Nathu Singh. He got a wicket, but its Shardul Thakur (never heard of him), who has SA on the ropes at 156/6. Thakur has picked up 4 of the 6, while Nathu Singh has a wicket to his name.

Its interesting to see that its the seamers that have picked up most of the wickets. Then a weird realisation sets in that there is no way one could expect our Test Seam bowlers to reduce SA to 156/6, in a Test.

The realisation that the guys who are nowhere near the Test Side are doing a better job than the actual Int'l Seam line up :)

I think we should fasttrack Thakur and Nathu Singh into the test side. They (anything) can only be an upgrade on the present lot of Int'l seamers we have.

I miss the days when we used to have 16-19 yr old debutant's...my theory is if someone is talented at a young age the more time he spends in our FC the more talent he will loose.

Yeah I agree with you. First of all he doesn't even have the right to criticize MS Dhoni because I don't think he was a better cricketer than Dhoni nor did he have such a successful cricket career like Dhoni so he should just shutup and not talk crap about Dhoni. Manjrekar and Bhogle are both unecessary commentators and probably the worst.
