Three day Friendly against Sussex
Dilshan and Vaas out. Tharanga andZoysa in.
I lost the toss and Sussez elected to bat first.
An early Breakthrough as Zoysa gets Montgomerie for 15, who is shortly followed by Yardy for a dissapointing innings total of 0 off 12 balls. Then in come the spinners to take out the other openor Goodwin, then in the last over till lunch another small breakthrough as Heather gets Caught at mid on. Sussez were 122-4 at lunch, Weerakoon the pick of the bowlers so far as he has 2-31. Then Muralitharan gets his first wicket and after that we have a flurry of wickets. With Sajeewa Weerakoon doing most of the work, ending up with 6-71 and Muralitharan 2-48, as Sussex struggle to get 150 as they get 175 all out.
Tharanga ,back in the team today, goes for 1 as we scamper our way to tea on Day One, 36-2 Kumar Sangakkara the other man gone. Then the wicket after Wicket after Wicket, we find ourselves in a predigament at 61-5. We then somehow survive only conceding one more wicket in the proccess till the end of the day thanks to Arnold on 38*. Early in the first session on Day 2 Arnold unfortunatly goes for 51 as he is balled once again. Then all the tailenders except Malinga who makes a duck all make double figures. Including a magnificent 50 from Zoysa. Zoysa easily the pick of the batsmen(lol) with 85*, whilst we get 248 All Out, 73 runs ahead.
As Sussex show there dominance by taking the lead at 75 runs they have only lost 2 wickets, thanks to some more brilliance by Muralitharan alone, then they are 83-2 at Tea on Day 2 as I think of a new tactic. As the wickets keep falling Muralitharan gets his 5fer by Bowling Naved-Ul-Hasan respectively. End of Day 2 and we need quick wickets as Sussex are 172-6, 99 runs ahead. Muralitharan and Sajeewa Weerakoon then wrap up the tail very convincingly, Muralitharan with the match figures of 9-138 and Sajeewa Weerakoon of 9-148.
Comoing into bat we only needed to face the last few overs of the first session and as we did so we anchored our way to lunch needing 121 runs to win off 2 sessions. An immense 115 run opening Partnership ends as Tharanga is caught LBW for 48. Sangakkara then scores the final few runs with Mahela Jayawardene at the non-strikers end as Kumar scores 82*, Weerakoon for some God known reason gets the Man Of The Match award ahead of Muralitharan with a superb Batting,Fielding and Bowling display.
