I was surprised to see no thread up for this series, so thought I'd put one up - especially in light of the huge selection issue coming up for South Africa in the first Test. Ten of their sixteen-man squad are potentially out of the first Test due to having played in domestic games where players later tested COVID-positive. The remaining six, therefore, can be expected to play in the first Test, including two debutants. The remaining five players will have to come out of the Warriors-Cobras match, or not have played at all in that round of domestic cricket.

An additional difficulty will be if the team is to fulfil its expected quota of non-white players for this Test, as it already has four white players out of the six definitely available.

Of course it could all be a storm in a teacup, the players concerned test negative and we move on as normal.

It looks as if Temba Bavuma is the logical choice to promote someone as a makeshift opener - either that or perhaps Quinton de Kock does it and one of the other keepers takes the gloves. Honestly, I am really interested to see how this all plays out

So 6 people to play the first test match? Cool

how have you selected players who are not even in the squad?[DOUBLEPOST=1608966599][/DOUBLEPOST]Why do I feel Sri Lanka is going to win again?

What are the Lankans upto today? 256/3 in just 61 overs!!!!

South Africa is already under pressure.

SL seem to have taken a liking to playing in SA

Can't wait to see the Proteas take to the field with the novel strategy of six players.
Meanwhile, SL lose 4 players to injury during the match

they have one bowler and dasun shanaka left. they need to bowl again too, this is a living nightmare.
can you imagine taking 6 bowling options in a match and then being left with 2 at the end

Pretty incredible that Faf's best score comes at the tail end of his career.
