Well I wasn't really around a few years back, so I can't really compare what it's like now to then, but by the sounds of how you're talking and Ollie agreeing, I guess it has.

About six months back or around then, I was ready every single story here, but now I'm only reading a few which is down to the lack of quality ones.

I think the likes of Treva and Surendar committed to one story for a long period of time, but now it seems people are just jumping from story to story all over the place.

I haven't recently come into any direct copying from other sites, which is probably due to the fact that I seem to be reading less and less stories these days, but I have heard someone else complain about it around a month ago.

Like Ollie said a lot of the comments are just one line or a few words, like "great update" or "nice presentation", the only story recently I've really been able to get involved in is JC's HRV cup story, and in that I try to make my posts a few lines with how I think the match is panning out.

Please if you see any plagarism post it here, or report it, and the person will probably firstly be warned, if they are found plagarising again after being warned then I think the only option will be to ban then.

Also guys like Ollie said try and keep your comments constructive, and if you're going to make a comment at all make sure you have read the whole update and are not just posting a couple of words for the sake of it.

That's what the thanks system was initially put in place to prevent wasn't it? And I agree about the plagiarism, there's no point reading stories with it in.

What I dislike more is the bad grammar and punctuation many people have. I can understand small mistakes here and there because I know that for a lot of people here, English is not their first language. But this is a story forum and therefore it should be able to be read easily without having to stop and think about what is trying to be said. People need to read over their story entries before posting them to avoid this kinda of mess

I agree with both your points.

IIRC the thanks system was actually put in place for writers to say thanks for the comments they were getting instead of them making a whole new reply to say "thanks", but really it should be getting used to stop people posted two word replies.

It seems there are a lot more sub-continent members these days, which is the reason why spelling and grammar has dropped off.
I'm not really sure why it is so hard to get spelling and stuff correct, like I know for a fact my PC has a spell check on it, so when I write "runnin" without the "g" a red line comes up below it, do they not have this feature in English as second language places?
Yeah grammar and stuff should be one of the main priorities, and when I see a story that is riddled with mistakes it straight away turns me away from it.

Wait for few minutes.
Yeah, the English which sub continent people use is poor.
But wait, "Thanks" system has become just a reward for the ones who comment on ones story.
I agree that I started that practice and even some more started that (dunno if they saw me doing or not).

I personally use Thanks system if I don't find anything to comment:yes.
When observed, User2010 uses if he feels that he even wants to say the same.

If I were site admin, I'd replace that Thanks image with a little big image containing "KIUGW" and "Thanks", with same hyperlink:yes.

And I completely agree with JC.
Ban the people from writing the stories if they just copy paste the story "text thingy".

I agree with JC completely. The quality is degrading and it is happening way too fast. No one wants to give some time to put up a quality update. I joined this site in Jan but I did read some of the fantastic stories in 'Hall of Fame' thread.

One thing I noticed there is, the comments which readers posted. They were more of constructive comments with no intention of getting back anything. Now, it is like people only comment because they want comments in return. Both writers and readers are responsible for the consistent downfall of this forum, I think.

People might be thinking I myself stopped my story. Yes, I did but there was a reason for it. I will try to bring it back as soon as I can and I know that I can put forward the best I have. At the moment, I just don't find the time to write and plus when I asked CG to close it I had problems with C07. I just didn't want it to turn out to be a mess with hurried updates and thought holding it up was the best way to move forward.

As far as English and Grammar go, I'd like to take an example of Aditya here. When I first joined his 'Indian' story had just begun, I think. His updates were very poor with some very foolish grammar mistakes. But, he improved and improved a lot and now his writing is perfectly readable. How did he do it? He had the determination plus the readers encouraged him by providing negative feedback which helped him.

Copy pasting stuff is ridiculous. If one doesn't have the time, he/she shouldn't update a story at all. There is no one running behind him saying you need to update your story. Speeding up updates is no excuse to copy paste material. If you have to speed up, you can skip a certain update which is not important.

I wish we could do something...

This is quite a problem too.

However, I too agree with JC.

The problem I think is this people are opening up stories and not completing them and again opening up another story.
Well, I won't name anybody but even respected members are doing that.:spy

If i'm unable to complete a story, i'll wait a while and start a new one.

There is one member who is doing this and all of the other things posted already :spy

A little big image? :p

That really just comes down to common sense though, others who are just going to post a two word comment for the sake of it really should just use the thanks system like you and User do.

I don't really see the need for another button saying "KIUGW", as if you don't have anything to comment you can just click thanks, like thanks for making the update or something.

And wait, I strongly suggest people to start stories in a simple manner, with a simpler mission basically. Then, if you get to your target easily, extend the story a bit. We have a active mod now who just can transfer the second post as your post, which means that you can change the story like what you want.
Exactly like what Hedger did regarding his Career Diary.:yes.

@ CG: Yeah, many sub continent N00bs can be easily mislead with the additional image:yes.

I agree with just_cricket. Just in a week's time, I have read two stories where the writers have simply pasted the articles. Ridiculous.
Going through their previous writings, its quite clear that their writing ability is amazing.

I suggest people that just do not paste the articles from other sites or blogs for frequent updates. It ruins everything.
I am not aiming at anyone. Its just a general request.

One thing that bugs me is with people that are upset that story writers are updating too quickly. What is with that? The readers are never satisfied. They are annoyed when their favourite stories are not updated and now they are unhappy because someone is writing in a good rhythm and posting updates swiftly. Really can't understand the problem with quick updates, it just moves the story along quicker and doesn't die a slow death.

In one way you're right, Trev. But, if the quick updates are at a cost of quality update I won't buy that.
