For my money this is comfortably the best game of the series so far in terms of the quality of the animations, gameplay and AI combined. The sliders also appear to actually work, which is really helpful in moulding the game how I want it.
Small things I would look at improving that have become obvious to me thus far:
- New ball: it doesn’t seem to have any real gameplay effect at all, and there’s no evidence of changing amounts of swing or spin as the ball ages.
- Time of play: previous Big Ant cricket games have had variable over timing, which is really nice and realistic. In this game it seems that the clocks advances 1 minute on the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th balls of an over, so it’s always 30 overs in a session (unless a change of innings) and no variety. I did once get a 29 over session though I’ve no idea why that happened - but it should happen more, realistically no game gets the full 30 overs in the morning or afternoon. Time should advance at fall of wicket, at drinks, if extra deliveries are bowled etc to create a bit more variety. Spinner overs being faster than seamers would also be a bonus.
- I would love to see some tailender batting animations get added to the game so you can get a bit more realism out of them: the sliders make it far easier to ensure they edge and miss more given their lower skills now (which is an absolutely huge improvement on Ashes Cricket in which the tail reliably added 150 every single game), but it would be even better for them to visibly display questionable technique at times.
