It is quite confusing to get your head around but if you've been consistently dominating all season (as the Leeds Lynx will ) and have one trip up in the semis, it would seem wrong that you are now out of the comp.

Yep, I didn't think of it originally but it seems logical to me as you're more or less giving 1st and 2nd place a second chance to prove themselves if they fail in the first semi. If they lose that against 3rd/4th they don't deserve to be in the final . Also means there's no chance of a 3rd v 4th final.
