The Android Discussion Thread

I'm not sure if the Google editions of these phones are available in India. I cannot wait for someone to get it from USA, because I'm essentially without a phone at the moment.

Besides, I've read reviews that the camera performance is shoddy in the GE.

It hasn't yet arrived here. Maybe in a month or so. HTC One without the customization is quite 'bland' as per what I had read. You can still go for any of the two and flash a AOSP ROM, which should give you the vanilla experience.

It's remarkable to see what difference the third party apps can make.

That's why I prefer to use Software Decoding as default for all videos in MX Player.

Video Resolution - 1920x1080
Hardware Decoding - Default codecs used by Canvas HD
Software Decoding - Third Party codecs used by MX Player

The software decoding uses exclusively CPU processing power while hardware decoding uses more graphical processor unit, but the impact against battery is very high, dont you mind that?

Okay fine, android tablets vs Ipad Mini, quick pick people?(With reason)

I have not tried an iPad Mini, but I have the original iPad. iPad Mini should have the same software, albeit in a smaller screen (and probably lighter hardware specs). But iPad kicks butt of others ANYDAY!

For all the android techies out there, I'm using a galaxy S4, bought 2 months back, but since the last 2 days I'm facing this peculiar problem that the battery drains out completely. Eg. I was on 70%, and was clicking some pics, when the phone suddenly restarted after clicking about 3 pics. When it turned on, it gave me a low battery beep and showed 0% battery. Restarting or removing the battery did nothing (when I did remove the battery and put it back in, on starting up, the battery showed 60%, but immediately turned to 0 and my phone restarted).
This has occurred today as well, and I'm worried my battery may have become faulty.
I haven't installed any new software, however I may have updated some of the existing apps. I'm not rooted, and on stock everything.

Attached is the screenshot of the battery outage I had today. (Had one while writing this post as well..)

What I'm really worried out is, how am I going to explain my problem to the service Center? Would they acknowledge this image as a genuine problem or would they ask me to recreate the issue in front of them, because that, I cannot do. I have no idea when and how it happens..

Could anyone help me out please? :)

It could be a faulty battery or some software bug which is reading wrong values out of the battery sensor. Did you check XDA Developer forums to see if its a known issue or an isolated one?

I couldn't find anything on the XDA forums, but I did come across some other similar cases on google.. (XDA was too hard to find anything.. I searched for battery drain, and pretty much all the threads came up in the result :p )

Is there any software which can tell me if the battery is indeed faulty?

The scenario you have provided seem to indicate you do have a faulty battery

I had similar situation with my Nexus 4. After a few times dropping battery to null the phone just stopped responding and wont turn on or charge. Had to get a replacement from Google.

There are a few apps in Google Play but don't think they will be of much use as they can only indicate at software level the usage of battery. Just search "Battery Test" in google play for the apps

Other thing you can try is getting another camera app from google play and testing camera with it as it could just be faulty app. If all fails do a factory reset on the phone and check if it resolves the issue before replacing the battery

I have heard a similar issue with my friend's iPhone 4. Do one thing, totally drain your battery to 0%, charge it with the universal charger, factory reset the mobile, then insert the 100% charged battery into the mobile and see. I think this should solve the issue. Good luck :thumbs

You seem to have a faulty battery calibration. Although battery calibration apps aren't of much use, I still suggest to use one. There are several such apps you can get on the Play Store. Download them and follow the instructions. Some battery calibrators require you to completely drain the battery and then charge till 100. Then again drain it completely. By draining it completely, I mean draining it so much that the phone turns off. Reboot the phone, the phone will boot up for a second and again turn off. Do this until the phone has no power to even try to boot itself up.

Meanwhile, download GSAM Battery Monitor and even Battery Monitor Widget and check out the battery stats. Do check out the the negative mA value Battery Monitor Widget shows. Could be that your phone is sucking a lot of battery. Unlikely, but possible.

You aren't rooted, otherwise there were some more solutions. But the ultimate solution still is to take backups and do a factory reset.

I'm not an Android expert, my suggestions may not be fruitful but they are worth trying out. All the best! :thumbs

Try replacing the battery is always a better option.:)
You should even try charging up your phone using a different charger, maybe?
