The Ashes 2005 - match ups/battles

Of course I am looking forward to this series, because it is a series of cricket. But, it's time that England faced the fact that Australia are probably invincible at the moment, and the way the poms talk themselves up is only going to hurt them, as the only way they could get close to beating Australia is through complacency.

No one's invincible mate, Australia may be good but they are not invincible!!!

We are not talking our selves up, most english fans think Australia will win, we are merely stating that we have our best team for years and should be able to compete with you aussies for once. (in test, of course we know we can beat you in ODI's ;) )

Ponting is actually a very average captain in my opinion. He doesn't need to be very good really. He can depend on his team to do their job, he does his job alright, but hes not one of the worlds best.

I am biased but I do believe Fleming is indeed the best captain at the moment, but that has nothing to do with this topic really. I also think your comment that NZ is one of the worst teams going round is absolutle rubbish, we are ranked 3rd in ODI's and I rekon we could easily take down sri lanka and will in october/november or whenever it is. Test wise we are ranked 7th but I think we are lower then what we deserve. I would say medium in test matches, but when we get half our players back, then we will fly up the chart. Until half of the Australians retire then we have no chance at number 1. Stop being so goddamned cocky.

I think Australia will win all the matches and win it. I really don't think England have a chance this time around. I'm not saying England are bad, but the Auatralians are in a league of their own and if they are beaten then it will take an amazing performance. I will be cheering for England because I am damned sick of all the cocky australians.

I think McGrath would be after Vaughan too....like last time.

yea like last time when Vaughany took u guys to the cleaners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

heres 1..........................

Who will get more runs between Harmison and McGrath. This is gonna be a close 1.

On the Ponting issue:
1. Yes I do agree with the vast majority TO A POINT. I believe Gilchrist is a better captain, BUT he is a full time keeper, plus an opening batsman for half of his cricket. Therefore, Ponting is in my opinion the nxt best choice. And besides, Ponting is doing very well continuing the progressive work of Border---Taylor---Waugh.
2. Ponting, when at his best (like at the moment) is a very positive effect on the team.
3. This whole thing is totally off topic. I didnt intend to make a captaincy battle out of it...

I agree with Will p about the Gillespie vs. Trescothink battle. Dizzy troubled Trescothick last series, with his just full-of-a-length bowling. Good series coming up...

Tres is a different player at home................he showed a glimpse of this in the icc semi where he made 80 odd in next to no time.

Although it will be a key battle at the top of the innings, I dont think gillespie will come out of the battle quite like he did back in aus.
