The Ashes 2021/22

Silverwood must go. Now, before Sydney.

Joe Root should step down for his own sake. It doesn't matter who's next.

Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler have played 135 Tests between them. Enough.

The County Championship is trash and needs burning down in order to rebuild.

Jimmy Anderson is nearly 40.

And putting all of that to one side, who the fearsome tweak even plays next week?

Silverwood knows the best XI, he told Ali Mitchell. So I have full faith in him.

@Aislabie Don't agree with the Anderson thing the guy is still a good bowler. I know Chappel gave him a tough time but we all know the match is won with the bat. The bowlers did their job but if you don't have runs on the board it just puts more pressure on the bowlers who still did alright considering how dire this side is.

Licking my lips for England's tour to Pakistan :D
(please don’t get your shit together in the next year, would be such an anti-climax)

Let's have a look at this side:
  1. Zak Crawley is Mark Lathwell - a bang average county player out of his depth
  2. Haseeb Hameed is Jason Gallian - a scratchy fighter who's just not technically good enough
  3. Dawid Malan is Nick Knight - very good in one-dayers, has his day very occasionally in Tests
  4. Joe Root is Alec Stewart - standing tall in the middle of this shower of shite
  5. Ben Stokes is sort of an Allan Lamb/Andy Caddick hybrid - sort of two players in one, except when he doesn't turn up which is surprisingly often
  6. Jonny Bairstow is Graeme Hick - a good one-day player and county beast who's flaky in Tests. Just recently brought back into the side for Ramprakash (Pope)
  7. Jos Buttler is a John Crawley - except bafflingly picked for his wicket-keeping
  8. Mark Wood is like Devon Malcolm - though admittedly better at batting and fielding
  9. Ollie Robinson is Gus Fraser - really better than this team deserves
  10. Jack Leach is Richard Illingworth. Honestly a decent county spinner
  11. Jimmy Anderson is Dean Headley. Jimmy is better than Headley, but Caddick is better than Stokes so it balances.
:eng: :bat: Mark Lathwell
:eng: :bat: Jason Gallian
:eng: :bat: Nick Knight
:eng: :bat: Alec Stewart :c:
:eng: :ar: A.A. Caddick-Lamb
:eng: :bat: Graeme Hick
:eng: :wk: John Crawley
:eng: :bwl: Angus Fraser
:eng: :bwl: Dean Headley
:eng: :bwl: Richard Illingworth
:eng: :bwl: Devon Malcolm

Yeah, that side would still play this one off the park and it wouldn't even be close.

Yes he is still very good.

But he is objectively nearly 40 years old. 40 year old fast bowlers get career ending injuries.

Disagree. He's either Craig White (in your CC save) or Ben Hollioake (if not for the obvious and awful events)

He looked a perfect Test batsman 5 years ago. What happened?

Craig White's debut series was wild.

I should probably finish getting beaten by South Africa tomorrow

Joint most Test losses and ducks in a year. Only because England played a lot of Tests, and were bad throughout. Excuses for the ECB to play fewer Tests :p

Seeing Australia dismantle England makes me even more proud of India‘s performance in Australia with almost an A team.

Extras outscored every English batsman in 2021, except for Root, and… Burns.

I find solace in the fact that India isn't the only side who makes a hero of a debutant :p
