The Ashes 2021/22

Kane Williamson would like to remind you that you're jumping the gun a little bit there
Just because Williamson is still around doesn't mean they shouldn't be succession planning for him now. He's only 31 but he's been missing a lot of Tests recently

I think the issue there is Ollie Pope sucks
You don't think by now they all pretty much suck.

Ollie Pope is just a less bad Zak Crawley, similarly he shouldn't be judged for knocks against Pakistan.
They're both bad, the issue is how can we improve as a team and not be f*cked bad every time we play a better team?

Sadly, no one wants to watch the County championship as it takes too long, the world is sadly changing into a want it now and make it quick. I have to deal with parents who feel I am solely responsible for their children's education and development; so far from the truth, a parents, sorry I digress but the world needs to take stock and slow down. Cricket is a sport that can achieve this. The team I manage at school you see changes in behaviour when they have played as they're more relaxed than stressed before (maybe this is my interpretation). Is t20 cricket that exciting? Throw the ball fast and hit the ball hard a very simple game, longer forms of the game hold so much more strategic value but little interest in the public realm.

Well, a lot of people in England want to watch Tests and they take longer. YouTube viewing figures also show the county championship has something of an audience - even though there is zero marketing, it is rarely played in the height of summer and counties seem embarrassed to mention it in polite company.

As a club player I have always believed that as adults we should guide children and young players as to the best way to play the game - not just serve up shallow short formats. Cricket teaches patience and rewards courage and concentration. Not everyone has it but those that do generally enjoy long format forms of the game and often stick with it throughout their lives.

No doubt they're the future of three and four, but when Williamson returns I suspect Conway gets to spend more time in the middle with Tom Latham than he would in an ideal world

Oh I don't doubt there are many people wanting to watch tests, you tube viewing means they are watching while at work. Inside the stadium it is a different matter but we play Australia and they can sell tickets but any lesser teams and the grounds are not full by any means.

The trend is dead set with shorter form cricket and the attention span of Joe Public is that for the shorter the better. I am school teacher and you see parents drift off when you start to speak during progress meetings. Counties have used the you tube format to their advantage which is a good move maybe the generation of income through advertising would be a better money spinner.

As for kids and parental guidance..... Yeah, in my experience many parents would appease their kids for a bit of peace and quite or I must work in a school which is the exception to the rule. My I hope that's true? There is a ratio there but maybe OFSTED would not approve.

Tbh, Test match viewers usually get attracted by the performance of their side. It doesn't really matter if people are watching from ground or not. A team that is on a roll and consistently getting the better of different opposition is surely going to attract the crowds to the stadiums.

I tell you, India used to be a white-ball dominated country and nobody used to bat an eye about Test Cricket. And somewhere around 2016-17 they were unbeaten for about I guess 12 matches and during those times there was suddenly a boon period where people literally filled the grounds like anything. There were school going kids, teenagers and lots of young adults wanting to see that side play.

We were a terrible side in Overseas in the longer format of the game and till 2017-18 whenever India toured Overseas there were mostly empty stadiums because people knew that India is going to falter at some stage. Their recent performances are even encouraging the Overseas crowds. So I think all it comes down how you perform as a side.

Over here nobody even watches domestic Cricket but still about more than a million people are professional Cricketers and they want literally play all the formats of the game for India. So it comes down equally to the interest levels.

Englang got nothing to lose. I'd probably open with either of Buttler/ Bairstow with Hameed/Crawley at the other end. Give the swashbuckling wicket-keepers the license to go for runs. Let them play their natural game at the top. If it comes off, well an good enough. If it doesn't, its not going to make a dent in the universe.
