OOC: So I've not missed a Major League Wiffle video in a couple of years, and while I can't get people together to make this kind of content for cricket (WCG Backyard Cricket is a good place to go for that) I thought I'd put together a little story on here that I'll update from time to time. I hope we can enjoy it together.

What is the Backyard Bash League?

The Backyard Bash League will see teams of four compete in Backyard T20 matches. These matches will be twenty balls per side, made up of four five-ball overs. The four-person teams will be all-out if they lose three wickets. And, as is tradition, a hit over the fence means six and out.

Where is the Backyard?

upload_2020-10-27_15-19-16.png
The RCG (Rogerson Cricket Ground) is located in Generic City, State. It will be home to the entire first season of the Backyard Bash League.

- - -

Who are the teams?

There will be four teams in the inaugural season. They have been very creatively named after the four cardinal directions, and they are the
Northern Nightingales
(captained by Ern Shylock),
Southern Superstars
(captained by Kalle Lydiate),
Eastern Eels
(captained by Fusco Wirihana), and
Western Woodpeckers
(captained by Kelby Rogerson). They will each face each other twice during the regular season, with their positions in the league table deciding where they are seeded in the playoffs.

Playoffs?

2nd and 3rd place in the league stage will go on to play the Wildcard Game. The winner of that game will face the regular season leader in the best-of-three Championship Series.

Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the first-ever BBL draft.

:redo: :redo: :redo: BREAKING: Eels make trade with Nightingales for first draft pick :redo: :redo: :redo:

Eastern Eels captain Fusco Wirihana has completed a draft trade with the Northern Nightingales in order to get their hands on the first overall pick. The trade sees Wirihana trade his first and second round picks for the Nightingales' first and third round picks. As a result, we have a revised draft order:

1 - Northern Nightingales
Eastern Eels

2 -
Southern Superstars

3 - Eastern Eels
Northern Nightingales

4 -
Western Woodpeckers

5 -
Southern Superstars

6 - Eastern Eels
Northern Nightingales

7 -
Western Woodpeckers

8 -
Northern Nightingales

9 -
Western Woodpeckers

10 - Northern Nightingales
Eastern Eels

11 -
Eastern Eels

12 -
Southern Superstars

- - -

Pick 1
Eastern Eels
select Kristian Lee. Alongside Fusco Wirihana, theirs will be the bowling attack to watch in BBL matches this year.

Pick 2
Southern Superstars
select Craig Lydiate. Not by any means unexpected this one - it unites father and son duo Kalle and Craig Lydiate, presumably to open the batting together.

Pick 3
Northern Nightingales
select Kurt Casey. The best batsman remaining in the draft, and he should be an important teammate for Ern Shylock.

Pick 4
Western Woodpeckers
select Randal Woodley. A very interesting pick as Rogerson appears to have built an all-spin attack.

Pick 5
Southern Superstars
select Jake Lydiate. Impressive family loyalty from Kalle Lydiate, even if he probably wasn't the best pick available.

Pick 6
Northern Nightingales
select Jay Bhakri. A keeper who bats a bit as well, this is an important pick for the Nightingales.

Pick 7
Western Woodpeckers
select Alex Leaburn. A decent batting option for the Woodpeckers, he looks likely to open the batting with Rogerson.

Pick 8
Northern Nightingales
select Ronan Rogerson. The opposite of the Lydiates sticking together here - the Rogersons appear to be spreading out among the teams.

Pick 9
Western Woodpeckers
select Fen Leaburn. The Woodpeckers needed a wicket-keeper, and that's exactly what they've got.

Pick 10
Eastern Eels
select Tim Shylock. The wicket-keeper they needed, and brother of Ern, appears to have been irritated ever since the Nightingales picked up Bhakri.

Pick 11
Eastern Eels
select Kerry Rogerson. Interestingly, the Eels avoid picking a third bowler who might want overs. And no doubt the Superstars will be relieved.

Pick 12
Southern Superstars
select Stan Moss. The Superstars' second bowler is going to be a very important pick for them - otherwise they were going to be turning to some non-bowlers.

I think it means the player specializes in nothing and is just there to fill squad.
raises serious questions on the Eels Management

I guess its a case of classic nepotism
