I'm actually fifth out of everyone ATM despite getting knocked out second.

Scotland not only made the world cup, but made the semi-finals!

And Chilie in the final?!

Chile actually have a very talented, young squad right now - most who are gems in FM, like Mati Fernandez...it also depends on the regens though, since it's 2018.

Great story blake, been reading, and hopefully more of these take place.

Keeping the same style of update as last time, I strongly prefer it.

In the season of 2018/19 FM Elimination viewers were finally treated with their first move in quite some time - and what a huge move it was too. Italian goalkeeper Mattfb was the one who decided a change of scenery would do him nicely, and he left London and found himself at none other than FC Barcelona. He was signed on the 6th of January, 2019 for a whopping $40.5M on a contract which sees him earning over $20M AUD a year. He has committed on a four year deal so it seems almost certain that he will be remaining there for quite some time. However, this move isn't quite as lucrative as it may seem - Barcelona finished just 6th in the current season which means they will not be taking place in the UEFA Champions League - instead he will be participating in the Europa League. Fortunately they both earn the same amount of points - but he is still going to need a lot of appearances if he is chase down Hedger. Matt performed reasonably well since taking over Barcelona, conceding 17 goals from 14 games and he made 11 more appearances for Italy over the year. Meanwhile, there was further good news for Matt as he ended up claiming the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year award for 2018 - an award he had never even placde in before. Matt ended up gaining over 130 points on Hedger, but he will need to do that and more in the season of 2019/20 if he wants to survive.

Meanwhile, Hedger's Juventus had a good year as they ended up topping the Serie A, finishing just 2 points ahead of Inter on their way to champions. Hedger was another important part of their team, scoring 16 goals in 25 league appearances but he was lacklustre in Europe with a poor return of 2 goals from 7 matches and he struggled internationally, making just 2 appearances for Sweden after young 20 year old dynamo Jacob Lundkvist stole his starting place in the team, bursting on to the scene with 4 goals in his first 5 caps. Hedger is now just 19 goals away from the all-time record set by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but if he doesn't play the record might just happen to elude him. There were no big awards or flashy wins for Hedger this season, but he remained strong and did the basics well and as long as he has a reasonable season next year he should be guaranteed a top 3 finish. He also put pen to paper on a new 4 year deal with Juventus, signing a contract worth approximately $15M a year.

The ongoing battle between Ollie and Shantanu for first place continued, with Shantanu giving himself a slightly bigger advantage after a strong domestic and international season. Shantanu also narrowly passed the 3000 point mark, and it looks like he will be very tough to catch. Each year Ollie attempts to chase him down at the front of the pack but so far he has remained unbeatable, and he has kept up his consistent goal scoring records.

It was a great year for Ollie's Manchester City, featuring Covvy and The Spin as they recorded their first Premier League win since 1967/68, narrowly triumphing over Tottenham and United in a fiercely contested battle. Ollie continues to impress with yet another outstanding year, and he signed a new 5-year contract with City which all but confirms his future at the club. In truth it is an excellent move from Ollie - with City guaranteed continental competition, he will be earning the highest amount of points possible each year. He was shortlisted for the 2018 FIFA World Footballer of the Year but didn't manage to place in the top three. He has taken his cap tally to 40 for England now following a good international year and the EURO Qualifiers should provide a few more caps for him and Shantanu.

Finally, Shantanu Rooney continued to dominate after another fantastic year which saw him named in the 2018/19 Liga BBVA team of the season after finishing top goalscorer with 26 league goals from 34 appearances. He finished overall with a solid tally of 32 goals in 46 matches - a figure slightly down from previous years, but not one to be laughed at. He has also continued his phenomenal international scoring record with 30 goals from 32 caps for England and looks set to break Sir Bobby Charlton's record of 49 goals fairly easily. He was also handed a new contract at Real Madrid which keeps him at the club for a further five years, with this contract worth $104M over five years. He has had a fine career at Real Madrid and it would make no sense were he to leave now. His man of the match awards continued to earn him extra points and it was largely these that saw him increase the lead over Ollie, as he cracked the 3000 point barrier and pushed onwards into 1st position.

Hey BKB,

I am using FM10 to simulate this. I have created a number of players in the database, set them to unemployed, 16 year olds and then followed their progress as they have gone from reasonable players to world stars.

I plan on holding a second competition, hopefully you will be up for it. It may be very different to this one though - I have a few themes in my mind, but I am undecided. ;)
