Story The National Bank ODI and Test Series 05-06 [C2005]

The game is underway:

Lineups:
A pretty orthodox lineup from New Zealand only introducing Oram into the side.

For South Africa, a few changes made with AB Devilliers brought in for the 20/20. No Albie Morkel but Ashwel Prince has been brought in as the no. 5 batsman. Justin Kemp has been picked in place of the out of form Jacques Rudolph.

South Africa In for a Biggie! 42/0 (4ovs)

Graeme Smith and AB Devilliers have been really good to watch and are looking extremely good on a wicket that suites the pace bowlers. The two are now travelling at a run rate of over 10 per over! Devillers has been the star of the show, playing some magnificent drives and a beautiful hook shot off the first ball that sailed over the man at Long Leg (Deep backward Squareleg). New Zealand are having a tough time bowling to SA's Openers and Oram is the only one that seems to be doing the job.

Above: The South African Openers take to the BlackCaps as they race on towards the 50 run mark in just the 5th over.

Devilliers: 30*(19)
Smith: 8*(7)

Extras: 4 (1w, 1nb, 2lb)

Bond Strikes as South Africa fall at 64/1 (8.2ovs)

Shane Bond bowled a beautiful inswinger at a very full length which totally did inexperienced AB Devilliers for pace as South Africa fall at 64/1. Devilliers was totally deceived by that inswinger and the pitch seems to be assisting the bowlers slightly although New Zealand will have to do a lot more if they want to restrict South Africa here as their batting lineup is very deep. The runrate also has been dropping in the last few overs.

Oram Delivers followed by a sudden drop in the run rate!

Some stunning bowling by Jacob Oram has seen New Zealand through the tough period and now they're on top here as he has picked up the other opener Graeme Smith. South Africa losing a very crucial wicket will have to put their heads down and get stuck into it as they head into the half way point of their Inns. The quick fall of wickets have ensured that South Africa's run rate has now decreased quite steadily but they're still at 8.2 an over heading into the 10th.
