The Reintegration Thread

Looking at schedules even if he did sign a contract he'd only be able to play about 5 or 6 CC games overall.

KP still has plenty to offer, but it was right to drop him at the time due to fitness issues. The "banning" was pathetic, vindictive and counter productive.

That said his response to that and to the news now should have been, get fit, get a county and score a bucket load of runs to show up the decision for what it was. That he needs to take advice, have discussions or whatever and his priority is to play T20 rather than to play 4 day cricket says a lot. If he really would "love" to play for England again, if it's not about money etc. he should have been looking to play county cricket this summer regardless of the words from the ECB.

Ultimately, I think the medium and long term health of the England side is better served by the removal of Flower, Moores, Saker, Downton and Whitaker than the reinstatement of KP.

Im sure KP can afford to loose a season of IPL especially if he is sure he has loads of cricket left in him atleast 2-3 more league season given he doesnt take part in IPl this year seasons!

If he is sure he can make runs for ENG team then there is no reason he cant make for Surrey and if stars align like a Eng getting knocked in QF and Graves looking for clean slate [atleast moores and downtown off] then im sure KP will have his chance, if not also he would have gained some much needed form he has been lacking over a year and make ECB brain cells look bad!!

BBC Sport - Kevin Pietersen: Which counties want to help his England chances?

Geoffrey Boycott on Kevin Pietersen
"It needs to be put clear to Kevin that if he plays well in county cricket then there's going to be a genuine - and I mean the word genuine - change of heart and change of opinion that he is going to be open for selection and that they are going to put bygones to one side. I don't think that it is fair to ask anybody to give up an IPL contract because that's all he has. He only has T20 around the world."

I think it clearly require regime-change. The question is will it be too late by then? If England lose Bangladesh, lose to New Zealand and Australia in the summer Moores' position will be untenable but to be honest bringing back KP would almost be tokenism by then. He's 35 already. Maybe he could play ODI or T20 but ultimately bringing him back isn't a great idea at this point. That ship has sailed.
What does need to happen is an enquiry into why the ECB handled it so badly and for those involved to lose their jobs, if they haven't already.

I would say it depends on how you view KP, if he is the best english batsman around, age is never a barrier with right approach from both sides! Sanga is 37 just notched 3 centuries together, same with SRT, or in aus Rogers is dtill doing good, then you had Misbah in pak notching the fastest test century at 40, only criteria should be about can he score and is he in form [ has to do the 4 day games for that], and i never get this whole building for future to be honest, if im making a team while i would consider future i would still want to win the very next match and put the best possible team there!

Going by tremlett KP was great with youngsters as echoed before, so his age and experience should actually help rather than be held aginst, every team has a couple of oldies!

I have played a lot with Kevin over the years for Hampshire, Surrey and England and I can’t say anything bad about him. He didn’t put a foot wrong on that 2013-14 Ashes tour before his contract was terminated, despite claims to the contrary.

There was nothing I witnessed which was untoward and he was a positive influence in the dressing room and a big help to the younger players who could pick his brains and tap into his experience and vast knowledge of the game. In terms of having him around the team, I haven’t had or seen any problems with him in the last few years.

Its a dangerous and slippery slope argument to suggest ENG greatest international run scorer, best batsman since 1990 and the last flair/destructive ENG batsman since Ted Dexter would be tokenism or ship has sailed.

Who is to say his best years as test batsman isn't ahead of him and he cant score runs close to at 35+ like other recent modoern greats like Tendy, Lara, Sangakkara, Dravid, Younis Khan etc etc?

I don't think any of those withdrew from ALL multi-day and even List A cricket. KP, initially due to injury and then by choice, has played only T20 since the end of the 2013/14 Ashes. He has done nothing to merit selection in any England side other than T20 because for a start he hasn't proved that he is physically up to it.

Fit and in-form, KP should be in the side... it's easy for him to say he wants to play for England, but we need to see him back that up.

Well none of them had to deal with a vindictive board like the ECB did they? Although Lara, Khan and Sangakkara had their well documented issues with their boards that led to major problems etc

Also I know you have been following the KP saga from the inception and its clear that saying "he needs to back up that he wants to play for ENG" is overly simplistic. Quite obviously the ECB regime led by the CEO and that tyrant Giles Clarke needs to make it abundantly clear that if KP plays county cricket and for majority of ENG season and scores heavily we will be picked again.

We living a cricket world where the money for the best players and coaches is not with international cricket, so KP at his age is 1000% right to not commit to ENG local cricket unless he gets those assurances. Its would make no cricket and financial sense for him.
