Right I'm going to spice up Day 1 a bit and role claim. The reason I'm doing so is because I think this is quite an important role in a game with newish players in.
I'm the Governor. I can prevent a lynch after the hammer has been made if I feel that we're lynching the wrong person. This means that I can stop quick-hammering scum but also that I'm the person who you need to convince of your innocence.
My character is Senator Ruth Martin and, as I'm distressed, it's only a one-shot role. As a senator I also have a one-shot secret service bodyguard - doesn't specify if that means one of you dies instead!
Quite an important role in a small game and I'm claiming partly because day 1 is boring, but also because I think it's in both the town and mafia's interests to keep me alive. Happy to be investigated and my story checked out.

I've just stated it's "difficult" to get something going on Day 1, I've never ruled out or denied the fact that it can be useful. Neither do I think it is valid to move on without any good discussion going on.
