Well done Jaz KUTGW with the stories :crying :happy :hpraise

January 2007 - An Overview

A sensational month was December, apart from the poor loss at home to Chelsea, we got 6 points clear at the top of the table. Porbably the best month for entertainment with lots of goals and lots of good play, we were starting to not finish the opponents off. Three 4-3 results in a month isn't too shabby at all. Our goal scoring record in the tabel speaks for itself, whilst half of those goals conceded in the league happened in that month. Let's hope January would be just as good.

Everton 0 - 2 Newcastle
A pretty poor match to watch, but I am sure the Newcastle faithful would of enjoyed us winning this game, which increased our unbeaten run to 4 games since our loss at home to Chelsea at the time. Stancu scored during normal time and Obafemi Martins added to his tally in the 92nd minute, to help us cruise to victory in the end. Most of the teams in the top 6 all won unfortunately.

Newcastle 6 - 1 Coventry(F.A Cup 3rd Round)
A fantastic first half won the game, quite simply, for us as we took a 5-0 lead at the break. Individually and as a team, our work ethic and our passing play were phenomenal. Albeit was only Coventry but they have been in great form in the Championship. Owen, Martins and Emre all scored two goals each and put us in good stead for the 4th round. Who would we get?

Newcastle 3 - 0 West Ham(Carling Cup Semi Final Leg 1)
Yet another victory, and yet another good performance. We duly deserved our win and should be happy with that performance, even if it was Owen's last one. He went in style scoring the second goal, with Martins scoring before him and Smith scoring after him. This puts us in a comfortable postition for the second leg where we can barely go wrong.

Newcastle 3 - 0 Wigan
An outstanding performance in the second half, and not just because we scored two goals but because we played fantastic football. Most of the team played great football but the flanks and strikers were sensational. Barton, Faye and Viduka got us the goals in an important game.

Newcastle 4 - 0 Middlesbrough
A fantastic Rival match with us demolishing Middlesbrough at every given oppurtunity. Stancu scored inside the first minute to give us a dream start and then Smith made it 2-0 before the break. 2 late goals, one from Emre and another from Smith gave us a great historic win. If fate is kind, we could be playing Middlesbrough in the Final of the Carling Cup. We will see.

West Ham 1 -2 Newcastle(Carling Cup Semi Final Leg 2)
The lads did me well with the new tactic I introduced to change things a little and thanks to Smith and a stunner by Vanden Borre on his debut we won the game. More importantly though, we were through to the Final in which we would face... local rivals Middlesbrough, who we have alreayd beaten twice this year. Come on!

Blackpool 0 - 4 Newcastle(FA Cup 4th Round)
Brilliant performance capped off by the goals we deserved, although we could of snatched a few more once they went down to ten men. We were expected to win and we duly delivered with Viduka netting a brilliant first half hat-trick Smith snatching a late 4th goal. Viduka and Smith played very well up front with eachother and Vanden Borre continued his strong form for us.

West Ham 0 - 2 Newcastle United
A very close game, too close in fact. West Ham had more shots than us and we both had around the same amount of possession. Martins again showed us his quality as he went and netted twice to give us yet another victory, and cap off a very good month indeed. Kudos to the man and the team. Man Utd lost and Chelsea drew against Fulham, so all the better.

A simply remarkable month and I don't really know how we can keep up this winning streak despite having an action packed January with an incredible amount of games. We had now scored over 60 goals and conceded a mere 19, which shows just how well we have been playing this season. We increased our lead at the top by one point during this month but we still have a game in hand. It is panning out rather nicely all of a sudden. I didn't get manager of the month again, sadly, only to be beaten by Arsene Wenger. Thankfully we got two awards again, Obafemi Martins and Charles N'Zogbia both impressing enough to get a very special mention. Well done lads.

2 great updates Jaz glad to see the story's still here :D

Saturday 2nd February

With the transfer window close and the hectic schedule that was in January over, we can finally relax. We made some great signings in January like Vanden Borre, Bale and loads of youngsters. We finalized one deal on deadline day which was that of Paraguayan striker Salvador Canbanas. His finishing should hopefully bring alot to our team. ?7,500,000 was needed to bring him to St.James' Park though and he is 27 so a few years possible between him and Martins could make it all the worthwhile. Chelsea are still hot on our trail, although Arsenal and Manchester United are not completely out of it. Newcastle Under 18's beat York Under 18's 8-4 the other day with new signing Michael Woods getting a hat-trick. Not bad for a midfielder.

Today's encounter would be at home to Premiership strugglers Fulham. All there goals have come from David Healy(10) and they find themselves in 17th place. However, lose against us to today and they could risk dropping down into the relegation zone. Fulham's away record has been terrible this season and our home record as been impeccable as we have played 12 and won 11 of them! Only failing to win against Chelsea. Today's game would be a great way to introduce Salvador Cabanas into the mix so he will be starting up front with Obafemi Martins, who is striking magnificently so far this season. Emre and Barton are again going to be given a chance in the middle of midfield, with Torje and N'Zogbia on the flanks. The defence picks itself, Enrique and Vanden Borre on the wings with Cacapa/Radoi partnership in the middle. We can't go wrong. Surely.

David Healy injured. Phase one completed! 4 minutes gone and their star striker has already limped off injured. A minute later and we are 1-0 up as Emre puts Martins through into an easy position where he slots home, yet another goal. He is seriously on fire this season. 4 minutes later and it is 2-0 inside 10 minutes! Salvador Cabanas flicked on a high ball and Martins brought it down and fired home. Yet another goal! Salvador!!! What a brilliant goal! 3-0 after 14 minutes as Salvador Cabanas hits a shot from 30 yards and it just swerves into the top corner. Beautiful stuff. Fulham then get a great chance to get back into the game but Bouazza messes up and ends up hitting his shot into the ground. 28 minutes gone and we get a great opportunity to make it 4 but Martins this time can't strike home and hits it straight into Niemi's face! 5 minutes till half time and Mirel Radoi the captain nearly scores a fortunate free kick but the deflection off the wall wasn't enough to put Niemi off has he got a strong left hand to it. That's the last bit of the action of the first half as Mike Dean brings the first half to a close. Good stuff.

Torje, Cabanas and Martins have all been wonderful so far in this game and really have put us in a good position for the second half. The rest of the team has been above average and the midfield has worked as a unit well today. I will still make a few substitutions though as a few holes are appearing and a few legs will start to tire. We cannot lose this game now, it is in the bag so to speak.

Cabanas has a brilliant chance to make it 4 straight after the restart but his shot goes high and wide and no where near the goal in the end. Jimmy Bullard then hits the bar from a free kick about 25 yards out and we can count ourselves lucky as it seems Given got a fingertip to that one! Bouazza gets another chance to bring one back for Fulham but again he can't convert as Fulham start to pile on the pressure. Back on the attack and a wonderful free kick from Torje is headed just over by Cacapa, but he should of take the chance. 30 yards out this time and Bullard again tries to catch Given off guard but Shay gets on top of it and comfortably saves it. Emre see's his shot got begging soon after as he received it on the edge of the box, took a touch but he then hit the chance wide. Take the chances boys! Collins John then misses a sitter as he has half an open goal and somehow hits it to the half that Given was getting up in! That shot was harder to miss than score... Emre, Cabanas and Torje all come off for the trio of Margaritescu, Viduka and Smith. Maybe one late goal? Yep, we sure get it. In the 90th minute Mark Viduka hits a free kick from just on the edge of the box and it goes in the top corner! 50123 people wactched us win in style today!

A cracking win today apart from Fulham scared us a few times but overall it was a good performance, especially from the forwards. Cabanas and Martins were wonderful and when Viduka came on he played a big part too. Barton, N'Zogbia and Enrique were the only starters to not really shine and I am hoping from a few better performances from them in the coming weeks. A great win though.

Fantastic news came through as we heard that Chelsea had drawn again but this time at home to Wigan! Arsenal also failed to win as they too drew away at Liverpool as this weekend seemed to get better and better. Hopefully Cabanas can score alot more goals as he has had a good start. 8 points clear with a game in hand now and it sure seems that we could be set to win yet another league title. Wow! I'm being talked about:cool: and yeah I have mentioned that I am a West Brom fan about 3,000,000 times on the Championship forum, sorry the "infamous championship forum":p. Also I will still be a main poster on everything I have an interest on including this thread and the others.

Monday 4th January

The African cup of Nations had now entered it's Quarter Final Stages. Some pre tournament favorites such as Mali, Cameroon, Nigeria and Tunisia are all out. Gabon and Angola were the only real surprises to come through, mainly Gabon's only threat Counsin smashing them in. Togo had been drawn against Group A winners Angola, who had somehow topped their group even with the teams like Cameroon, Nigeria and Ivory Coast. Senegal were drawn against Ivory Coast. Senegal are so far unbeaten including beating Togo in the Group stages whilst Ivory Coast have only lost to Cameroon. Gabon were drawn against Morocco. Morocco have been in fine form this year, even beating Egypt whilst Gabon were the surprise in Group D, coming above Mali. Last but not least is a wicket tie in which we have Ghana v Egypt, both are tipped to win the overall competition. Sure going to be a great round, with hopefully a few upsets.

Quarter Finals

Angola 0 - 4 Togo
Senegal 0 - 2 Ivory Coast
Gabon 2 - 1 Morocco
Egypt 0 - 0p Ghana

Some hammerings and some upsets. The first tie was an one sided affair, with Togo tearing Angola apart from the beginning. Emanuel Adebayor started the scoring for Togo after 15 minutes, before getting his scored 20 minutes later. He then completed his hattrick after 70 minutes with a well executed finish. Dave Ribeiro then scored the 4th before getting injured moments later. A comprehensive victory for Togo, who go through to the Semi Finals.
Next up was Senegal v Ivory Coast and this was again, a one sided tie with Ivory Coast scoring twice in the first 30 minutes. Kone and Drogba both snatching some goals and from then on in it was only going to go one way. Ivory Coast the second team to go through to the Semi Final.
Gabon v Morocco was the third tie and it resulted in a shock victory. Gabon would be going through the to the Semi Finals thanks to a great comeback after going one nil down after 9 minutes. Houssine Kharja started the scoring for Morocco but 10 minutes later and the scores were level as Willy Aubameyang scored a stunner. 12 minutes later and after 31 minutes, Gbon scored the last goal. Again scored by Willy, this time a lucky deflection found it's way through. Morocco dominated the play but couldn't get another goal and go crashing out in the Quarter Finals.
The last match in the Quarter Finals was the biggest, Ghana v Egypt. Both teams had around the same amount of possession but Ghana had so many more shots than Egypt, 14 to be exact but they just didn't capitalize. Egypt even missed a penalty after 14 minutes! The game eventually went to penalties after Extra Time. Mensa missed Ghana's first penalty and if it wasn't for Ghanem missing just after then it would of been all over. After surviving 2 sudden deaths Waieed Hamdy missed and then Asamoah Gyan converted his penalty to shove Ghana into the Semi Finals. Good game.

With all the Quarter Finals played, and the Semi Finals around the corner it could be very interesting, although I can't see Gabon getting any further, kudos to them for getting this far though. If Ivory Coast don't meet Ghana in the Semi Final then it is very likely that thatwill be the final. If it is I really don't know how to pick a winner, as they both have the quality and the caliber to knock each other out. It will make for interesting rounds to come surely.
