The Toon- Geordie Style (It's back!)

Saturday 24th November

Well with all the players back from international duty from last week, some are shattered. Training hasbeen going really well with nearly everyone making improvement to their footballing ability. There has been one bad case though where Michael Owen turned up for training for struggled with his fitness and didn't do his best. Chris Sulley suspects that he wants to move to a bigger club. A bigger club than Newcastle, my arse! Although we could do with the money, I would love to improve our facilities at the ground. That is for the board and Chairman to decide though and it is my job to grind out the results.

Well, today's fixture was scheduled against Portsmouth at home. After their great start to the season they have been going downhill ever since. They have lost their last two games, away at Liverpool and at home to Bolton. Muntari has been in wicked form for them though so we will have to look out for him! In the changing rooms before the match the lads were all in great spirits bar Michael Owen. He was just stitting there forward play with the bottle cap you get on sport drinks. I can't really drop him now, I need his morale up for our next couple of games. One game had already been played today and that was Arsenal v Tottenham in which Arsenal thumped Tottenham 4-1! Not good with Arsenal catching us at the top up with their great form.

The match started with Portsmouth using their possession to their advantage with numerous chances. Such as a curling Matt Taylor free kick which was only denied by a diving acrobatic save by Shay Given. Then a well worked move by Portsmouth with around 17 passes eventually reached it's way to Belluschi who, fortunatley for us, steered his shot wide of the post. Then our first chance, we score! We seem to be getting a little bit of luck now. Martins was our man again, failing to finish off a tasty pass from N'Zogbia the first time, but with the follow up he had now problem and dispatched it into the net with ease. 1-0, not deserved but 1-0 none the less. Portsmouth again dominate play, this time Belluschi hitting his final shot over than wide. Then on a counter attack another goal is scored! Luckily enough, it went to us. 2 minutes of added time was added on to the 45 minutes in which N'Zogbia put a cross in which was headed away by Levoy Primus, but waiting on the edge of the box was the legend that is... Mirel Radoi! Our Toon captain hitting a screamer from the edge of the box which better get it's recognition in goal of the month, great shot! They don't even have time to take the restart as we come in for the interval. Portsmouth easily dominated the half with us not getting many chances but somehow, we find ourselves 2-0 up.

Most things we tried were going wrong, apart from we were taking our chances. The opposite on what usually happens. Owen wasn't playing well really although I just had an inkling that he was going to give just a little bit extra, I can hope. For some reason José Enrique has been playing poor, today and as of late. Muntari was bossing the midfield around too easily, we had to fight harder and try and rebel!

The second half got underway with us having a lightning start as we went 3-0 up! Habib Beye running down the wing, had a stroke of genius as he then pulled it back to Michael Owen, who just inside the box hit a hard low shot into the far corner. I'm glad I didn't take him off now! Nothing happens apart from each team having their fair shar of possesion until the 70th minute when it all starts to happen with Portsmouth taking charge. This time instead of passing it around the park Distin just hoofed it clear for Santana to run onto, which he does although he messes up his one on one chance where he hits his shot straight at the keeper. 5 minutes later and the same happens again, Santana with another one on one situaion but he hits it wide. Santana this time the provider on 81 minutes as he crosses to the penalty spot where Benjani comes in unmarked, who then releases a volley but puts it straight in row 7. A wasted chance, thank god! By now the away supporters were cheering on their team as they wanted a consolation goal(s). Muntari taking on Torje(who had just came on) chipped a ball over the defence, in which Santana got to but again missed the oppurtunity, this time hitting it well over. 90th minute, 5 minutes added on! Where did they get that from? This nearly comes back to haunt us as Muntari on 93rd minute hits a scorcher from the edge of the box which then grazes the top of the bar. How lucky have we been today?

We didn't play anyway near how we can play, we were incredibly lucky today. I did eventualyl bring Michael Owen off towards the end on 80 minutes and I saw him smile, so lets hope that he can train to his best once again. We were fantastic on the break today, although lots of things were wrong. I have a dilemma on the wings and up fron on who to play, it's going to be tough choosing the next squad, in which I know we have Blackburn but I think it is away.

The lads weren't all that bad, I think I may have been a bit harsh on them. More importantly somehow Chelsea managed to win 2-0 away at Liverpool which will definetly be a spanner in our works although a tleast Sunderland lost. AT HOME TO DERBY 3-1! Ha, well anyone that is the last game of November, so one more month and then it is the big 2008. Can we go this year with me undefeated? November 2007 - An Overview

Ater a somewhat wierd and utter amazing October with dodgy wins against the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool we were flying high at top of the league. An amazing 5-0 aswell against Bolton! We would start November though with what would seem to be an exciting local derby against fierce rivals S*nderland.

Sunderland 1 - 6 Newcastle United
Game of the year, and I am sure the fans would back me on this. Somehow we scored 6 away, remarkably we scored 6 away in an important match like this. In all fairness S*nderland were not very good as Martins came and helped himself to 4 beauties. One which got 3rd place in goal of the month. Barton and Stancu both getting their names on the scoresheet too as we trample to victory... yet again!

Derby County 1 - 3 Newcastle
We can't seem to get many clean sheets at the moment, but as long as we are scoring down the other end, I ain't complaining. Martins gets another hat-trick as he gets his tally to 7 goals in 2 games, a remarkable feet for anyone, let alone in the Premiership. Chelsea dropped points at home to Manchester United so all is good.

Newcastle Unied 3 - 0 Portsmouth
We were absolutely rubbish! Yes people say I expect to much and I should be thankful we won 3-0 but we were incredibly lucky and I feel we can do better. On the plus side though of the 8 shots we had, 3 went in. Martins scoring again, as he looks set to get golden boot and Mirel Radoi hit a screamer in stoppage time. Michael Owen also told the media where to stick it with his cracking shot.

Yet again we have an absolutely amazing month, dropping no points again for the second month in the row. Bad things started to happen towards the end of the month though with Owen and Viduka both publically saying they want to leave in January, as well as us playing bad against Pompey at home. On a major pluls though we managed an amazing win away at our loacal rivals S*nderland in what seemed to get everyones morale up. Martins has been in immense form as you can see by his 26 goals in the league and we have only played 14 games! Rightly so he received player of the month for a third consecutive time and I picked up the other award of Manager of the month. A very god month ending with us 6 points clear at the top of the table and S*nderland still in 19th! We can only hope...

Great month for you guys. Congrats on the top slots in all monthly awards. Starting to create a bit of a gap from the others :)

This is a great run of results. I don't see it lasting though the wheels will come off eventually

Sunday 2nd December

The start of a new month, the start of Winter, Don't you love it? It seems the lads don't. Training ddidn't go too well during the week and then to top it off I got two unexpecting messages. The first was that Michael Owen had request to be transfer listed! it seems that his heart is really set on going, I can't change his mind, but I can hope that he brings me in a load of cash and hopefully he can get a few more goals in before and if he moves. The other was that Mark Viduka was suffering from depression. He didn't turn up to training and his moarle is said to be very poor. It must be tough for him, he requested to be put on the transfer list too, in which I did. Michael Owen wants to move onto a bigger clubn though, what a terrible reason!

Another away game today, Blackburn Rovers. On paper this should be so easy, I could field a second eleven, but I demand we give the same respect to every club we play, wether it be Manchester United or Vauxhall Motors. We arrived at Ewood Park, and it is a very beautiful stadium. The changing rooms and the facilities are great. They even have an inside swimming pool! To the changing rooms we went though and discussed tactics and how to attack and defend by taking advantage of their weak spots. I didn't know what to do with the Owen and Viduka situation but I decided in the end to put Owen on the bench, he would come on, and leave Viduka out of the 16. He wasn't too pleased but could see why I did it. Hopefully he can get a game next time.

The game starts with the tempo low and pretty much non existent but we soo nchange the course of things with a chance. 7 minutes in and we miss an oppurtunity to go 1 up as Stancu can't get any power to his header, supplied well by Martins. 5 minutes and Torje grazes the top of the bar with a well worked free kick between him and Charles N'Zogbia, teamwork! The something that only happens once, happened. I don't know if you remember but Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, a few years scored an amazing diving header. Unfortunatley for him it went in his own net(incidentally that game was against Newcastle). The exact same happened today, but the unforutnate man to score in his own net was Benni McCarthy! Steven Taylor and Benni McCarthy both come close at both ends, as Steven's shot was turned over and Benni's easily saved at the front post. Blackburn strike back! Bentley with a free-kick to the back post where Morten Gamst Pedersen had run in, undetected, and nodded home his first of the match. Damn! Such an easy goal to concede, and we have been rather good at set pieces this year. Last chance of the half then fell to us, well Martins infact. After recieving the ball from Milner he quickly turned on the ball and hit it furiously! It was heading for the top corner until Friedel pulled of a brilliant save. Kudos to the man. Well we went into the half, with score at 1-1.

We were doing quite alot right, but we weren't really taking our changes. Milner was having a good game but I thought it was due for him to have a rest as he look shattered, so on came Barton which meant Torje would move onto the wing with Barton playing just behing the strikers. Something had to go right, surely? We can easily still win!

The game restarts, with the tempo at the end of the first half coming through as Margaritescu puts Stancu through who hits a powerful shot straight at Keeper Friedel. Then two goals came in the space of 4 mintes. The first of which was an absolute screamer. Jos? Enrique whipped in a delightful ball, for Martins to get beaten to the ball by Ryan Nelsen but the ball fell the Margaritescu on the edge of the box who hit it first time, and it flew into the top corner from 25 yards! The second goal was a classic goal for us this season, a shot is saved and then we score the rebounds. This time Stancu passes to Martins, who's shot is saved, but Stancu goes and burries the follow up in style! 3-1 and cruising! We dominate play completely for the next 20 minutes or so until Blackburn hit us on the break, Rigters burying his chance after a gracious knock down by Bentley. Damn! 3-2, so I shout to N'Zogbia "Just take the ball down the wing, just keep on running!" 18 seconds later we were 4-2 up! N'Zogbia ran down the wing taking on two players before hitting the ball accross for Owen to head home in style! 8 minutes left, 4-2 up! We can't lose and we can even barely concede now... Oh for god sake! 4 minutes of added time and they capitalized in that time by scoring after a massice scuffel in which the ball broke to Derbyshire who easily slotted the ball home. Final whistle goes, 4-3 victors.

A very good game to watch for the fans and everything but we did quite a bit wrong, it has just changed to Winter I suppose. Going forward we were very good but at the back we were mediocre and let their shots, that they eventually had, go in. Training will be key this week before we face our next match, who I have no idea who it is. Owen played rather average, but picked his goal well. Dilemma.

End of an exciting day to say the least. Owen still isn't happy even though he got a goal and played okay. Viduka just wants to become a first team regular, I think, so getting him in the first team could be key. Unfortunatley, Chelsea won their home game against Bolton, even though it was a measley 1-0. Even Sunderland picked up a point away at Middlesbrough! "Good humour is one of the best articles of dress once can wear in society" - William Makepeace
