Thursday 22nd March

So with Derbyshire on 113/6 we looked to be in control of the match. However Botha and Sutton started to build a partneship up and the score began to get very near to ours. We began to get a bit nervous in the field as we just could not seem to get them out. Errors began to creep in with a few fielding mistakes and over-throws happening. Eventually the score was 155/6 of 29 overs. Although Sutton had been taking most of the strike, Botha was doing his job and sticking it out.

To try and break the deadlock, the skip brought Andy back into the attack. After a horrid first spell he would want to impress. And he did. He managed to remove Botha, when he clean bowled him. The partnership was broken and we could breathe a bit more easily.

However once again, the tail started to thwart us. Welch came out and started smacking us all over the pitch. He quickly made 20. The skip was getting very nervous. He brought Sheriy back into the attack, and told me to start warming up.Sheiry managed to get Welch to nick one behind which Geraint took easing the pressure. We had made another breakthrough. Soon Sheriy got the big wicket of Sutton, the match was now ours. Sheriy got the last wicket of Dean and Derbyshire were all out for 207.

We were really pleased to have won the match. We batted and bowled very well, although the Derbyshire tail did put up a lot of resistance. The Man of the MAtch Award was given to Sheriy who did deserve it cleaning up he tail like that, which included a ?1,000 cheque. We were all celebrating as we got on the coach and made our way back to Canterbury. It wa on the coach that I found out I was the third highest run-scorer in our division and Darren was ninth. This was the icing on the cake for me.

That night we all went out to celebrate. We went to a restaurant first to celebrate our first win of the season, then a few of us went out to some bars. Cooky managed to somehow end up dragging me into a gay bar which I went running out of in much shock!!!!! Cooky was to drunk to realise. However apart from that it was a good night out.

The next match was against Warwickshire in a 4 day Match. Hopefully I would be playing after my excellent performance in the first match.

Lol ha ha that's impressive, managing to get a gay bar into a cricket story

good job and congrats, hopefully you can keep getting the runs and wickets :)

'Sheriyar gets the final wickets' i sold him and looks like it was a mistake
tom baker looks in good touch, runs and wickets for him on his debut kutgw

great update Tom keep it up this is a very original and great story congratz on your first performance!

You could look at you 'boozing sesh.' in two way,

1. Kent dont think they are gonna win much so need to have a 'boozing sesh' whenever they do,

or

2. If thats what you do afterbeating derbyshire i cant to see what it is when you beat Lancs by 1 run in the Twenty20 final!!

Otherwise, Excellent work

I think 2 is more likely. I can't wait either :) And thanks for commenting

I will have an update soon. Need to upload the images. Please still keep commenting guys and thank you to those who have :)

lol, i can imagine how you would have ran out during that night out :p Also, nice all round performance from you.. May be, if you would have got extra 2 wickets, then £1,000 should have come to you ;)

Nice presentation as always. :)

Saturday 24th March

Well today, I found out that letters have been arriving for players who are being picked to play for England A. I didn't expect one, and did not receive one, surprise, surprise. However Geraint was named. We all celebrated with him and told him we expected him to get his place back in the England team. Here is the England A squad who are touring India:
England A Squad
V. Solanki (c)
G. Jones (wk)
K. Ali
G. Batty
I. Blackwell
R. Clarke
J. Dalrymple
E. Joyce
A. Loudon
S. Mahmood
O. Shah
D. Mascarenhas
A. Wharf
M. Yardy
R. Bopara

This did cause us a bit of a problem as we had lost our main keeper for the next five matches at least, with the chance of him being called up for England. This meant we now had Niall O'Brien was our keeper now, who if I am to be honest is not too good with the bat or gloves. It was a great oppurtunity for Geraint but left us in a bit of trouble. The team for the clash with Warwickshire on Tuesday is due to be announced in a few days time. Hopefully losing Geraint won't be too much of a blow.

Meanwhile I am still training hard in the nets. Matty Walker is nursing a sore hamstring and is not 100% sure for Tuesday. It would probably make the selection process easier if he was injured. Meanwhile I have also bought myself a new car with my new salary. A Renault Clio. I really like it, as it is pretty decent to look at and does go pretty fast

Nice Update, I was a bit worried you might have been picked :p

I dislike this story, everything is all too sudden...

You should have got a Ford Fiesta. Nice stuff, so far. :D

lol :laugh

Its really suprising that you are moving towards comfort zones(buying cars :p) so soon.. I feel, still lot of hard works needed to shine in the team for long period. Prevent your mind from any sorts of distractions. ;)

Nice works! :)

whats worse - losing geraint or buying a renault?! lol great story mate. However in you first paragraph of this page you used "began" at least four times in as many lines. Just a minor issue though. Top Story Tommy boy.
