Surrey won by 9 wickets
Man of the match is JGE Benning

A delighted Middlesex captain won the toss and elected to bat on this bright, sunny day. The track at The Oval was flat, so it promised a high-scoring encounter between two close teams. However, after a slow start, Middlesex began losing wickets quickly, and were soon reduced to 82-5. After this, there was no come back, as the Surrey bowlers ripped through the Middlesex line-up, Pedro Collins the pick of the bowlers with his 3-19. The left arm swing bowler bowled on a perfect line all innings, and picked up the scalps of Ed Joyce, Billy Godleman and Ben Scott. Strauss and Joyce were the only batsmen who fought the impressive bowling, scoring 35 and 24 respectively. The Middlesex bowlers seemed to have given up on the game, and bowled poorly. Only Steven Finn and Murali Kartik bowled at a good economy rate, the others were just smashed around the park. Ex-Surrey bowler managed to pick up the only wicket of the innings, that of star South African batsman, Herschelle Gibbs for 5. Benning and Newman both played relaxed innings, as they both reached half-centuries, and saw them over the small target.

Nottinghamshire won by 5 wickets
Man of the match is MA Ealham

A cloudy day, and a pitch with a greenish tinge made the Nottinghamshire captain have no doubt in his mind when he won the toss. Warwickshire began to struggle as Darren Maddy was removed second ball of the game by Ryan Sidebottom, and other opener, Ian Westwood had his off stump removed by young seamer, Stuart Broad. The middle order put up a fight, with Bell, van Jaarsveld and Trott each scoring over 30, but once they were removed, ex-Sussex keeper, Tim Ambrose fell to a spectacular in-swinging yorker from Stuart Broad, who also managed to remove seamer, Boyd Rankin. The match might have been close, if Warwickshire captain, Darren Maddy had realised it wasn't his day and switched himself out of the attack. However, he didn't, and he got smashed for 75 off his 9 overs as Nottinghamshire chased down Warwickshire's total in 36 overs. Mark Wagh and David Hussey were the stars of the innings, Hussey scoring 51 off 60, and Wagh finishing the game on 43*. All the bowlers other than Maddy and the possible exception of Naqeesh Tahir bowled on a good line and length, making it hard for the Notts batsmen to score. The match was pretty dead by the time Mark Ealham came to the crease and smashed 15 off 9 balls to finish the game. Mark Ealham received the Man of the Match award for his good overall display, mainly with the ball.

Excellent update, Two low scores chased down easily, hopefully we will see some high scoring thrillers next.

Somerset won by 9 wickets
Man of the match is PD Trego

After a dismal first County Championship against South Coast rivals, Sussex, Hampshire would have been looking to bounce back with a trip to Taunton to face Jack Teague's strong Somerset side. However, batting first, they failed miserably. None of the batsmen really got going, other than Michael Lumb, who scored a neat 30 before missing an off cutter from Peter Trego and turning around to find his bails dislodged. Kevin Pietersen came in and played a buoyant 17 off 17 balls, before hauling Tudor to Hildreth at square leg. Apart from those two batsmen, everyone else was far too tentative and paid the price as the Somerset bowlers, mainly Alex Tudor (4-16) and Peter Trego (3-34) tore them to pieces. Somerset reached the pitiful target in just 26 overs, with part-time off spin bowler Kevin Pietersen taking the only wicket of the innings: that of Craig Kieswetter for 29. Trescothick's confident innings of 69 off 75 really secured the win for the Sabres.

Leicestershire won by 8 runs
Man of the match is J Allenby

Finally, a game where the team batting first didn't get trounced. A very confident innings from Leicestershire, with no real standout performances, but a great team effort, with scores all down the card. Paul Nixon top-scored with a good innings of 42 off just 34 balls. His innings was supported by 22 from Jim Allenby and 37 from Claude Henderson. Garnett Kruger hit 30 in the lower order to boost Leicestershire to a decent score, when they looked in trouble. However, they commited the cardinal sin by not completing their fifty overs. This was due to good bowling performances from Andrew Crook and England spinner, Monty Panesar. This led to a thrilling finish, with Northamptonshire falling just 8 runs short of Leicestershire's total. Imran Nazir hit a solid 43 off 59, before trying to boost the run rate and coming down the wicket, only to miss and get bowled middle and leg. However, the main innings was 87* off 90 from captain, David Sales. Although, the constant efforts of Jim Allenby and the rest of the Leicestershire bowlers made sure Northants didn't reach the target. Jim Allenby deserved his Man of the Match after his 4-47, which really changed the game.

Derbyshire won't be too happy with their performance today. The only decent innings was that of Sri Lankan Wicketkeeper-Batsman, Kumar Sangakkara. Sangakkara struck an impressive 54 off 51 balls before attempting a cut shot off England hopeful, James Anderson, and getting a healthy nick to Luke Sutton. Andrew Flintoff took 3 wickets as Derbyshire crumbled to 148-9 before Nayan Doshi and Tom Lungley put up some resistance, and carried Derbyshire to 197, before a farcical run out saw the end of Doshi and Derbyshire's innings. Stuart Law and Brad Hodge's partnership secured an easy win for Lancashire after a knock of 44 from Mark Chilton. Stuart Law eased Lightning over the line as Brad Hodge assisted him with an innings of 59* off 57 balls. Manager, Zorax will be worried about his spin bowlers, Doshi and Patel, after they both went for over 60 each, with neither of them bowling their full quota of 10 overs. However, young offspinner, Chris Paget impressed with his economical bowling, and he was unlucky not to get a wicket.

Kent won by 14 runs
Man of the match is RWT Key

Rob Key was instrumental in Kent's win over Essex today. His 66 off 68 was well supported by 54 off 54 balls by Ryan McLaren and 40 off 55 balls by Andrew Hall. The Essex bowlers bowled reasonably well, and 250 seemed an average score on this pitch. Essex suffered a horrendous collapse in their innings. They looked to have the game in the bag as Cook and Bopara played some great strokes for their 118-run partnership. However, once Alastair Cook dragged a Simon Cook ball onto the stumps it started going downhill. Grant Flower also struck up a decent partnership, but they were both soon out in quick succession, and Essex couldn't quite recover, losing 8 wickets for 52 runs as Kent secured a narrow 14-run win. Kent surely will be a force to be reckoned with in this season's Friend's Provident Trophy.

Glad to see Leicester win :D We just need some quality in the batting line up now.
